Officials warned mortgage interest relief scheme had no policy rationale, favoured higher income people, could push up house prices, and should be ended. Instead, then-Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe extended it for a further two years: thestory.ie/2026/03/18/off…

Struck me watching the 'manosphere' doc was the sharp contrast between it and the latest episode of Laochra Gaol with Kevin McManamon. A man devoted to Gaelic, music, higher education, speaking openly of his love for his family. Worth watching: tg4.ie/en/player/cate…

President Trump said Monday that he spoke to a former president about bombing Iran. • An aide for George W. Bush says that “they haven’t been in touch." • An aide to Bill Clinton says that whoever Trump was referring to was not Clinton. • An Obama aide says “no recent conversations” have taken place between Barack Obama and Trump. • A source familiar with the matter said the former president Trump was referring to was not Joe Biden. nbcnews.com/politics/donal…

The killings in the last 24 hours of 14 health workers in southern #Lebanon mark a tragic development in the escalating Middle East crisis. @WHO has confirmed that 12 doctors, paramedics and nurses were killed in a strike late last night on the Bourj Qalaouiyeh primary healthcare center. Just hours earlier, two paramedics lost their lives in attacks on a health facility in Al Sowana. These incidents highlight the ongoing assault on Lebanon’s healthcare system, which is crucial for the populations it serves. Since March 2, WHO has verified 27 attacks on healthcare in Lebanon, resulting in 30 deaths and 35 injuries, including the horrifying events of Friday. WHO condemns this tragic loss of life and emphasizes that health workers must always be protected. According to international humanitarian law, medical personnel and facilities should never be attacked or militarized. The intensification of conflict in Lebanon and the broader Middle East increases the likelihood of such tragedies. Urgent action is required to de-escalate the crisis and protect the health of people throughout the region.

So now I’m in my seventies, I can think of nothing more enjoyable than sharing a photograph, from my own archive, and here’s a personal favourite… the great Bob Marley at his one and only gig in Ireland… from my old negatives #photography #BobMarley #myoldnegatives

For what it's worth, I think the controversy over Timothée Chalamet comes from the same exceptionalist pot that calls the winners of the Superbowl world champions, thinks Jackson Pollock is equivalent to Picasso or Francis Bacon, says with a straight face that Moby Dick is the greatest novel ever written, thinks television is made only in the English language, honestly believe New York is the greatest city in the world, and that history began somewhere around the late nineteenth century. Perhaps up to now, people in other countries with their millennia of history, language, sport, tradition, and culture were just too polite to push back against it.

The funeral of Father Pierre El-Rahi, Maronite parish priest of a Christian village, is celebrated today in #Lebanon, as these villages once again experience the tragedy of war. I am close to all the Lebanese people in this time of grave trial. Fr. Pierre was a true shepherd. As soon as he heard that parishioners had been wounded in a bombing, he rushed to help without hesitation. May the Lord grant that the blood he shed become a seed of peace for beloved Lebanon. #PrayTogether

Joint Statement The Foreign Ministers of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt condemn Israeli occupation authorities’ continued closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif to Muslim worshippers particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Security restrictions on access to the Old City of Jerusalem and its places of worship coupled with discriminatory and arbitrary access restrictions to the other places of worship in the old city constitute a flagrant violation to international law, including international humanitarian law, the historical and legal status quo, and the principle of unrestricted access to places of worship. The Ministers affirmed their absolute rejection and condemnation of this illegal and unjustified measure, as well as Israel’s continued provocative actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and against worshippers. They stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites. The Ministers reiterated that the entire area of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which amounts to 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is the legal entity with exclusive jurisdiction to administer the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram Al-Sharif and regulate entry to it. The Ministers called on Israel, as the occupying Power, to immediately cease the closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, remove access restrictions to the Old City of Jerusalem, and refrain from obstructing Muslim worshippers’ access to the mosque. They also called on the international community to adopt a firm position that compels Israel to halt its ongoing violations and illegal practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as its violations of the sanctity of these holy places. #Jordan

NEWS: The Trump administration confirmed it bombed a girl’s school in Iran. It's one of the most devastating military errors in decades. Trump lied about it. Pete Hegseth gutted the office preventing civilian casualties. 175 are dead. Most were kids. Hegseth should be fired.
