We are big Odenkirk fans but for us this was unreasonably violence for violence's sake. Quentin Tarantino-ish. Too bad you left WGN.

@HeidiStevens13 Spot-on observations, Heidi. The smaller number of newspapers also means fewer local voices are heard. The corporate takeovers have also resulted in higher prices for printed papers, making them less likely to be purchased by people. I had to settle for digital version myself.

@HeidiStevens13 What a fantastic column! We all can use more of these. True story: I took my daily blood pressure check (I'm on some blood pressure meds) while reading this column, thinking if anything could keep it low, it was reading a column like this. I was right: it was 112/84.

I watched Sam, the man who handles maintenance in my building, pull a treat out of his shirt pocket for a dog in our elevator and I felt the air shift the way it does when someone is kind. It sent me looking for more stories of kindness.
