What makes you think I’m not doing that too? It is not an either/or proposition. My parents helped all three of their kids out while having a nice home big enough for all of us to visit with our kids. We have uncles/aunts who did the same for their kids. My wife and I, my brother and sister, my cousins are doing the same. Literally paid for their college so they start out debt free. Paid for their cars. They have the option to live with us to save money while they get their feet under them. Will continue to help as we are able while we are still alive. Why the hell did we get to such a position that buying a nice house for your retirement years is some sort of sign of greed and proof that you don’t help your kids? Where did this expectation that grandma and grandpa have to downsize to a 1 bedroom condo come from?

@drewlevin nah modern economics is a completely different field, pre modern compute econ was completely useless but the last 5 years of nobels (so about the last 30 years of work) is very valuable imo. bannerjee is a famous example. I think books making people feel smart is fine on its own
