@heidfeldmafia I sat through them all. There were fewer overtakes but genuine driving skill was required. You had to push your rival into a mistake or outwit them on strategy. Front-running cars rarely cruised up from the back. They'd encounter someone who'd fight to keep them behind.

I’m assuming (and only assuming) that the news that the recovered Who episodes are technical review copies, or in the BBC vernacular ‘cutting copies’, means they are what everyone else called ‘answer prints.’ In which case it widens my theory even further… To explain…

@la_riviere @PaulVanezis Most UTV telerecordings don't have answer prints. They were made for internal use and the negatives were left uncut. The cutting copies were used as viewing prints. The rest would have had answer prints, which might be the surviving positives. The cutting copies weren't kept.

@kensgriffin @PaulVanezis Right. So would they then get an answer print as well? Either way, other than some discussion about terminology and a specific film recording way of doing things, it doesn’t seem to invalidate my thread the way it initially seemed.

@la_riviere @PaulVanezis The goal wasn't to edit. It was to check the technical quality of the telerecording. What happened afterwards probably varied. The BBC appear to disposed of their ones. At the other extreme, Ulster TV generally retained its cutting copies in its archive.

@kensgriffin @PaulVanezis Except off-locks and worse did make it into loads of distributed telerecordings. And I’m still surprised edits were done on a print with an optical track. Seems a bizarre expense to just stick a leader on (on filmed TV titles and clocks were joined seperately onto prints)

@la_riviere @PaulVanezis It would be for bad videotape offlocks and severe visual disturbances. The threshold for editing was usually high though.

@PaulVanezis I’m just surprised it had the optical soundtrack printed on it given the frame off-set. What sort of edits would be made?

@RichardLatto I wish that the BBC would do something with Steptoe and Son. The current masters are very poor and I believe are missing some footage.

@NewsLetter_Pols @StephenNolan There will be no detail because the fact is that the proposition only works from a financial perspective if free GP care ends for the majority of the population. It would also have financial benefits for BMA members but I'm sure that isn't their motivation.

The BMA has told @StephenNolan there should be a discussion about leaving the NHS and joining an ‘all Ireland’ service. No detail on how that would work - or even who would be in charge. Not a matter for them they say, but this weekend they tried to pick the health minister in NI

@AlanStout19 @mlchealth The medical card model would work identically to the current system if everyone had coverage. It only constrains demand and benefits your members financially if most patients lose free GP care.

This is a highly significant statement from one of NI”s leading GPs. While the issue of problematic access for the public and inadequate funding for doctors has been greatly debated - this from @AlanStout19 puts the debate on a whole new level. It’s hugely controversial for all
Alan Stout@AlanStout19

Let’s start the debate. We need an all Ireland GP service based on their medical card contract. They’ve solved and improved service and outcomes while we get much worse…_

@AlanStout19 Their medical card scheme is based on a sizeable portion of patients paying for their GP appointments. You can't say adopt their scheme without acknowledging that fact.

@ItisDiane The bile towards Humphreys was minimal - one newspaper hack and a few online trolls. She didn't lose because of her Protestantism - she was a poor candidate. Most Unionist commentary on her loss reflects how out of touch they've become with the situation in the South.

So much faux outrage regarding Emma Little Pengelly when the last few months we've seen the sectarian bile towards Humphreys. But you need Emma to go to the irish inauguration to represent you?

@TeamUnion_UK @Streakyblue1951 The inauguration date is set by the Irish constitution. It ended up on November 11th because of Mary Robinson's resignation in 1997. It can't move unless someone resigns or dies in office.

Co-leader of Northern Ireland Emma Little-Pengelly will NOT be attending the Inauguration of the new Republic of Ireland president 🇮🇪 She has put our veterans first. Has she made the right decision ?

@RobbieButlerMLA You do realise that not all Protestants in The Republic are Unionists? Some are nationalists and some don't care either way.

This every day long. An honest appraisal of what Unionists need to know and what to expect about their future in any UI. It's worth noting that the Protestant Unionist community in the RoI in 1921 was around 10% today it's 2% The trajectory today would be exactly the same IMO
Chris Donnelly@chrisadonnelly

The ‘new flag, new anthem’ argument is entirely bogus. There has never been a demand upon London to change GSTK nor the Union Flag to retain sovereignty over NI. Rightly so. The tail can’t wag the dog. That precedent will hold in a future all-Ireland framework.

Sectarian dogwhistler says he didn't whistle while equating border Protestants with hardline loyalists. Plus more references to the Ulster Covenent, raising the question of many generations must pass before Protestants are fit for office?

@JohnEdwardLee @IrishMailSunday What a hot exclusive! A border Protestant with links to the Orange Order. You'll be telling us that the Pope is Catholic next. This is seriously sectarian stuff that I had hoped we had moved away from long ago.
