@TaylorLorenz There plenty of human rights argument against AI as well as the dehumanization that can result from equating human beings as computers per Emily M. Bender's talk. But it's also important for artists to experiment. I have a 30-page elaboration of this in a report coming out today.

I have plenty of criticisms of AI companies and AI tech, but imo you cannot make smart criticisms of technology if you cannot grasp the basic functionality of that technology or even attempt to understand the experiences of millions of users who engage w that technology.

I need to understand these people's minds

NEW: The WSJ published a blockbuster report: the Air Force ran a psyop on its own senior officers. Briefing them into a fake classified program about purported alien technology. The WSJ stopped reporting the story. A promised Pentagon report never came. I picked it up. 🧵

@MiddleOfMayhem @azrathetical If there's no "there" there on the UFO topic, then your reporting may indeed stand the test of time. But if compelling historical evidence is declassified, then it may turn out that the Pentagon has been obfuscating about this story & all of the "hysteria" could be warranted. TBD

I have reported on why Congress is currently wasting taxpayer funds on a UFO snipe hunt. The direct answer lies with a core group of true believers, some of whom date back to the 1970s, and their paranormal crusades. My reporting mirrors official Pentagon conclusions. Stories about saucers, MIB, bodies, etc from the 1950s are indeed an inspiration for the core tenets of said core group, but are not directly the reason Congress is currently on an alien hunt. I have not "dismissed" the earlier stuff, and have in-fact covered it, but it is not directly relevant to the current story beyond being similar earlier examples of the same UFO hysteria.
