You’ve had close on 2 years and all you’ve done is totally stymied growth by your policies and you’re turning the country into a state that can’t work or doesn’t want to. And there’s your answer as to why people didn’t vote labour - they don’t trust you!

The election results today have clearly been tough for Labour. I’m sorry that we’ve lost so many brilliant Labour colleagues across the country, and thank them for their service. And I’m sorry that so many voters felt unable to vote Labour at these elections. @Keir_Starmer has taken responsibility and committed all of us to delivering on the mandate the country gave us at the last election. The Labour Party shouldn’t waste a minute of the time we’ve been given to get on with that job. If we turn inwards the public will think we’re walking away from that challenge. The next election will have unity or division on the ballot. A Britain built for all, or a Britain for the few. Britain is at its best when we come together and rise to the challenges of our time. And Labour is at its best when our values of equality, collectivism and unity power our project for the British people. We can deliver a better Britain in the years ahead and beat the prospect of division at the next election, but only if we come together, get on with the job and face the future.

As of today 154 UK Councils are led by Labour, 12 led by Reform. Anyone seen any coverage of that?

@Con_Tomlinson Selection of candidates, whether for local or national elections, is going to be the most difficult element for new political parties. It certainly shouldn’t be the first person to put their hand up, but when you’re desperate for candidates, ……. it might be!

Reform UK's Bangladeshi national candidate Addy Mo Asaduzzaman lost his bid to be a local councillor in the Central Southsea ward, Portsmouth. His British colleagues won five seats. A lesson here for Reform: when your candidates represent your voters, you're more likely to win.

@hatsandbikes @bristol_citizen Unfortunately it’s the standard of work that’s to be expected in Bristol. Several locations around the city have seen tarmac filler in slab pavements - there seems no sense of pride or checking by council officers.

Well done to Bristol City Council. Moved the kerb, replaced the historic slabs with tarmac and couldn’t even sort out the join. In an historic square. Utter vandalism. Be ashamed.

Rumours suggest Angela Rayner could take over from Rachel Reeves as Chancellor. Would that improve anything? I've been critical of Rachel Reeves impact on the economy, but I have real concerns that Rayner could take things even further in the wrong direction.
