What Monad has so far: - High quality open-source C++/rust codebase with many HFT-style optimizations and architectural changes - Public audits and clear docs that put the technology first. Transparency -- no hand-waving, no unsubstantiated claims - High-performance system focused on true decentralization, running continuously in testnet with 186 globally distributed validators at 5000-10000 tps - MonadBFT, a frontier consensus mechanism featuring 400ms block times, 800ms finality, large globally-distributed validator set, and tail-fork resistance - Async Execution (while supporting EIP-7702 through the Reserve Balance mechanism) - MonadDb for efficient merkle trie storage - Native code compiler for frequently used contracts - Interconnected community of smart, thoughtful crypto-natives who will grow in influence over the next few years - Ecosystem of promising young startup founders, ready to take their shot - Over $100m in ecosystem funding pre-mainnet - Founder support through DeltaV, the Monad Founder Residency, Monad Madness, and more - Monad Momentum, an incentives program focused on efficient UA and repeatable growth loops to help decentralized apps acquire normie users - A north star of making open-source, decentralized systems more powerful But there's still so much more to do. Are you excited?

MIP-8 (Page-ified Storage State) has been drafted by researchers at @category_xyz . This proposal makes storage page-aware. The EVM has 32-byte slots, but hardware works in 4 KB pages. Reading one slot pulls in a whole page; once that is done, the true cost to read any other slots from that page is very small. Under MIP-8, a 4096-byte (128 slot) page becomes the unit of access and commitment. Storage is grouped into pages, and each page is committed with a binary tree. Under MIP-8, gas is priced accordingly. The first touch to a page is expensive. Once loaded, all slots in that page are warm. This makes contiguous layouts (arrays, structs) naturally cheaper, without any disruption to sparse layouts (mappings). We believe that MIP-8 aligns gas costs more closely with true costs of state access. It incentivizes developers to choose storage patterns that utilize slots from the same page, and allows developers to build performant EVM apps that utilize state access efficiently.

Monad is rationalizing gas costs with true costs and constraints, so that developers can make the most of the hardware and build the most powerful applications. MIP-4 (linear memory expansion costs) is the first step in that direction. Live on Monad Mainnet now.
James@_jhunsaker

Monad now has linear memory expansion costs rather than quadratic like Ethereum. Smart contracts can now use more memory for cheaper cost. This expands what developers can build on Monad as well as reduces the need to potentially compromise security for optimization purposes.

@0xOwnerpaiN It should be a seamless transition, as all nodes switch over to the new logic after passing a certain timestamp. The only failure case is if a node didn't upgrade to v0.13.0 in which case that node will fall out of sync

Tomorrow, Thu 3/19 at 14:30 UTC, Monad Mainnet will undergo a hard fork to revision MONAD_NINE. Node operators should upgrade to at least version v0.13.0 before then. MONAD_NINE introduces MIP-3, MIP-4, and MIP-5 as detailed in the changelog in the next message

As part of its gas sponsorship implementation, Metamask is automatically delegating to its EIP-7702 contract on Monad the next time that you send a Monad transaction: support.metamask.io/manage-crypto/… I would guess that the first transaction you sent after Mar 10 included an EIP-7702 delegation The delegation is kind of "part of the wallet" (a default Metamask behavior), it's not like a contract approval.

Parletto finally found its home. And it’s purple. Fast. Decentralized. EVM compatible. Built for consumer apps. Beta is LIVE on @Monad. Prediction markets meet parlays. Things may break, that’s the point. We’ll keep shipping till mainnet. parletto.bet

Most people introspect more than is optimal. That doesn't mean the optimal is 0, it just means that for most people (given where they are in life, their job, relationships, skills, etc) their level of meta-thought exceeds what is optimal. Of course we would then need to debate the importance of optimality -- like, many things that give us happiness are sub-optimal -- so optimality in itself is maybe only important from the perspective of something like societal productivity

@keoneHD if there’s an “optimal” amount, then how’s it overrated? that shows it’s not overrated no? there’s an optimal amount of salt / seasoning you add into your food =/= salt is overrated.

Marc Andreesen is wrong in claming that none of the Greats were introspective, but right in pointing out that introspection is overrated The optimal amount of introspection is always less than what you currently do Introspection is overrated, just go do things

We just launched Tempo Mainnet & the Machine Payments Protocol. Last 5 years our team also created: - Reth: high performance node SDK for Ethereum L1 & L2s. - Foundry: testing framework used to deploy/test >$100B in DeFi. - Wagmi/Viem: Typescript for all crypto web apps. AMA.
