Friends - I take the bench in January and we will, of course, be inviting the community to join in celebration. My formal investiture ceremony will be February 20th at 4. We've had to change the date from prior communications, so please update your calendars. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

Friends -  As we move to the other side of a heavily contested election season, I know there is a lot on our hearts this morning.  As for my race for 15th District Court Judge, we did it! We campaigned for more justice - more restorative justice, more access to justice, and more victim services. We focused on making sure that people from all walks of life get a fair day in court. Yesterday, the community voted to approve that path.  First of all, thank you so much to all of my supporters and hard working volunteers. You brought visibility to a low visibility race. I want to congratulate Tamara Garwood on a well fought campaign. She and her family rallied, giving the community an excellent leadership option. Thank you to the many organizations, elected officials and community leaders who came out to show support. I want to give special thanks to Judge Tracy Van den Bergh for encouraging me and seeing this through to the end. Thank you to my family and friends for their endless patience.  A few years ago at a judicial training, a retired judge pulled me aside. She had heard enough about my appellate plans. She saw something in me that I didn't always see in myself. She said: You belong on a trial court. That moment opened my eyes. We have treatment courts, early intervention - the ability to help people find a path forward that keeps them out of the justice system.  Last night, I reflected on something I said when I started this journey. When something is outside of your comfort zone, you have to keep coming back until you own it. It may take years, more weight, and deeper scars, but what you carry without choice may be exactly what you need to get there. And when you get there, you will be freeing more than just yourself. I think that's what's we've done today. As a community that values social justice, the mandate is clear. It's time to move forward on that path.   Thank you.

Kerene is one of the hardest working social justice advocates in Washtenaw. From 9-5, she's worked in poverty law, civil rights, judicial admin, and conviction integrity. But, she constantly works beyond the job description. She: - founded an award-winning pro bono project with U-M law students that's going into its 10th year - served as a juvenile referee at no cost to the county, including 24 hour on-call work, and presiding over Saturday hearings - helped develop Ann Arbor's independent police-oversight commission as a human rights commissioner - published 10 articles on social justice issues such as bail reform and domestic violence - successfully litigated cases of first impression, including lgbtq civil rights cases, and pre-marriage equality same-sex divorce cases Learn more at morejustice2024.com/just-the-facts #accesstojustice #knowyourjudges #justthefacts #MooreJustice2024

This just in! I rolled up my sleeves a few months ago to write a grant app. We just got news that my conviction integrity unit was just 1 of 2 in prosecutor's offices in the nation to be awarded a 600K federal grant to expand our #innocence program! Justice is hard work, and I've been putting in the work for over 2 decades. If elected, you can trust I'll fight for funding to strengthen and expand treatment courts. I'm not just saying this because I'm on the ballot. I've committed my career to #restorativejustice and #accesstojustice. I'm running because I believe the community wants more than the status quo on the bench. You can read more about my work at MooreJustice2024.com

I had a great time at today's #battleofthebar charity softball game for Detroit Pal. I managed to hit the first pitch, made it to first, and with the help of a pinch runner, made it all the way home! Plus, @MI_Justice brought home the trophy again!
