@nzherald therein lies the awkwardness of NZ's tendency of often wanting to call itself the 'best in the world' in whatever category applies on a particular day (more so than I notice other countries doing). Glad the ERA supported her on this one.

First the High Court. And now the Chief Ombudsman. When will the Govt apologize to Kiwis affected by the problems with MIQ? The PM said after the High Court decision: “I do think there will be more to say.” @jacindaardern, now is the time. Those who suffered deserve an apology.

@Tipster64188828 @FlyAirNZ I tried multiple times...on hold for over 2 hours then my call got cut off, or I had to end it. 3rd attempt, eventually got through after 1 hour 32 min on hold :( the call centre is under the pump atm. Or in their own words which you will hear on repeat 'we're pretty busy atm'

@FlyAirNZ understand you are 'pretty busy at the moment'. But can you give an estimate of what the wait time is to speak to a human in your call centre? Feeling a bit like its mission impossible atm.

Standing ovation for an inspiring speech by PM @jacindaardern outlining how NZ has had the best health outcome in the OECD for 2 years running. What this Govt has done to keep NZers safe, protect jobs and cushion the blow to the economy. What we are doing to build back better.

Now a man is on hunger strike in a New Zealand quarantine facility because @jacindaardern will not let him travel a few kilometres down the road to see his dying father. How does she sleep at night? Kiwis need to speak up against this unimaginable cruelty. i.stuff.co.nz/national/healt…

@cjsbishop Discussed this very thing with a friend who described it as 'something deeply ingrained in a culture that hasn’t moved past a 1950’s population/culture of if you don’t live in NZ you don’t count as a kiwi'. Which is sad and problematic.

“We don’t really want them back” I get that a few people in NZ think this. What I don’t understand is how you get to this level of disdain for your fellow Kiwis. We’ve been travelling the world for decades.

We agree with @CharlotteBellis: "At what point did we get so bogged down in these rules we’ve come up with that we can’t see that she’s a Kiwi in need of help and she needs to come home?" We've been saying for months that the emergency allcn system is too rigid and needs reform.

Charlotte Bellis is a pregnant Kiwi reporter based in Afghanistan who is stuck in limbo as a result of Aotearoa’s MIQ lottery. 👉 1news.co.nz/2022/01/29/miq…

Useful thought experiment for the people loyally defending the government re Charlotte Bellis debacle. Ponder what you would say if John Key was PM and his government stopped a pregnant woman in Afghanistan from getting an emergency spot in MIQ. Be honest.

Remember when the classic Kiwi OE (overseas experience) was an asset? Bringing wisdom and global knowledge back to NZ.That mentality has changed in the last 2 years with NZ not wanting to listen or learn from those overseas. It's an interesting one #groundedkiwis

@keribloomfield @danwootton @MailOnline Hi Keri - I started this petition calling for better representation of expat NZ’ers in parliament. I would love it if you could check it out and see if it something you would like to see happen 🗳 jessicaellerm.com/nz-government-…

@JessicaEllerm @danwootton @MailOnline I have just signed it. I was thinking the other day that overseas experience used to be highly regarded in NZ. An asset to bring back to NZ. But that mentality seems to have been entirely squashed in the last 2 years. An interesting one right?

My cowed fellow Kiwis will call me a traitor but Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's crazy Zero Covid policy - when the rest of the world is learning to live with it - is cruel, deluded and doomed to failure. My deeply personal new column for @MailOnline dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…
