It folds up like this. The upper post rotates 90° and slides further into the lower post.

I redesigned a little and printed a little, and now I have version 0.1.

Next, I spent some time studying PBR - physicall-based rendering. I'm intrigued by the "Disney Principled Shading" model and implemented it. Here's a screenshot from that version.

I fixed up the shadows. They have soft edges now. I fixed the shadow acne by simply not using shadows on the cube. It is a convex shape, so it can't self-shadow, and nothing is between it and the lights.

The only platform that will never change away under your feet is the one you host yourself. My blog will always be there. The thing it lacks compared to a social network is discovery and interaction.

Now I've got rudimentary lighting. Lighting helps a lot.

Now I have a virtual trackball with momentum. I like the momentum.

@FogleBird Unnecessary copy, which might be expensive. Every stupid decision has a "good" reason behind it. Collectively, they turn C++ into a steaming pile of incidental complexity.

@bikerglen How fast is the big dial's response time? Can you get it to act like a VU meter?
