Took some time during self-directed PD to redirect myself. Between conversations on data driven instruction and Checkpoint and end-of-quarter grades, it felt nice to revisit my (ever evolving) values and the things I've learned in my first 1.5 years in the classroom.

Really excited to use this this year.

How do we appreciate the awe-inspiring images coming from Webb while recognizing NASA's inherit connection to the military industrial complex?

So happy to have defended my dissertation, “Grounded Freedom: the African American Quest for Land in the Post-Emancipation United States.” I had the good fortune of working under two excellent advisors and I cannot wait to carry this research project into its next iteration!

@ChiPubSchools is recommending that schools give a universal screener 3 times per year in math and reading. Does it really need to be given to every student 3 times per year? What resources and training are allocated to school staff to respond to the screener data?

Excited to share that I was accepted to this NEH Landmarks Workshop! Can't wait to dig into the history of the space program – and my hometown.

There's a phenomenon I actually see extremely commonly when literature is used to teach history to middle school and high school students. Let's call it "pajamafication."

@MFeinberg5384 Whoa! I’m teaching 6, 7 & 8 with the expectation that I use Skyline. I’m not knocking the curriculum yet but am looking for more guidance around implementation…

@kerryb2014 What grade do you teach? I created a full years worth of 7th grade materials last year.

I’m just a teacher, working outside of contract hours, desperately trying to understand how to use Skyline in a middle school social science classroom.

@TeacherVoss Thank you for this. Do you have suggestions for playlists? Are most Ts letting Ss complete them at their own pace? I’m trying to make sure to preserve Ss learning from each other and building on each other’s ideas. Does that look like self paced playlist + discuss journal?

@kerryb2014 My rec is leverage the student learning journals thru Google docs. Not hard to imagine students speeding thru modules to get to checkpoint assessments.
