@GregDavill @lethalbit I don’t like to place them on my boards as I personally don’t use them, but if I am going to be handing it off to others I make an effort to keep them in

@lethalbit Personally I never use them for assembly, so the extra time needed to ensure they're neat and legible is hard to justify. I do still put them on if I think they'll add value to debugging/bring up.

Unfortunate to see my projects being ripped and posted on LinkedIn as people's own. I believe in Open Source projects to help others learn. Dissapointing to see my name and logo removed and replaced with someone elses. Maybe make a change before claiming it as your own?

@timonsku @samykamkar You can get cameras modified to remove the IR filters (I’ve been hoping to do this with an old DSLR at some point). Unfortunately it’s not reversible :( There’s also 35mm infrared film (Rollei makes some)

Even though I haven’t been posting my electronics projects I wanted to share my first attempt at leatherwork - a pen sleeve for carrying fountain pens to work. Turns out, leatherwork is tough.

@tomfleet @oshpark Am I crazy for thinking those aren’t illuminated? Looks like a render but those look far too uniformly lit. I like the flex PCB idea though! Curious about reliability on that vs a wire.

Oooh! Illuminated fader heads! Maybe one for @oshpark flex..? A set of apa102-2020 or similar small form factor digital RGB LEDs, on a gooseneck flex PCB. Similar to how you'd do a cd rom reader optical carriage connection.

@tomfleet @Tauss_srgl @lixielabs @GregDavill If this is the level of renders on Twitter nowadays then I humbly retire. I think the thing that makes this feel like a render is the perspective from the focal length used. Super neat.

@Tauss_srgl Very nice! It's surreal. This is the other group in the Venn diagram that overlaps with @ketszim, @lixielabs, @GregDavill et al - with the "is it real or rendered?" intersection.

Curious if anyone knows of any good open source USB battery bank designs? I want to build the lightest possible one for hiking and I want the flexibility of picking the “pack” depending on the length of my trip.

@kenkeiter @tomfleet I’m also a huge fan of putting a 0.5X Barlow lens on microscopes. The extra working height is really nice for getting tools under.

Hive mind - what's the concensus on reasonably priced USB microscopes for SMD assembly work? Had to do some 0201 today with a 4x loupe, and it's given me PTSD.

@setlahs I had a tweet I deleted (I wasn’t super confident in it) but it seemed to me that the comparator was tied into pins 18&19 of the DC-DC, which are the CSP and CSN connections.

@setlahs This might be wrong though, struggling to reference the location of the buck converter

@setlahs Are you sure Pin3 is not connected via an internal layer? Seems weird to me that they would have a pin that just connects to a single passive component. Unless its for a resistor that they do for some basic identification or something. Here's a bit more on that comparator.

@_Jana_Marie This is super cool so far! Might suggest using JLCPCB's 3D printing service with SLS to replace the 3D prints. My thinking is the roughness might help to scatter light as opposed to reflecting it (thinking like velvet in a theatre).

@KeenanJohnson Whenever possible with this sorta thing I try to give them to first or second year students. Nobody needs them more than students, and they rarely have a lot of spare budget
