Maldon & Tiptree produced a ruthless display of counter-attacking football to secure a commanding 4–0 victory over Felixstowe & Walton United at the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium.
The hosts enjoyed the bulk of possession in the opening stages, but it was the Seasiders who looked the greater threat on the break. A succession of early corners put Maldon under pressure and Felixstowe fashioned three excellent chances. Gilchrist saw a left-footed effort saved, Ethan Garcia had a 17th-minute attempt deflected over the bar, and De La Paz forced a sharp stop from Harry Wright.
Maldon thought they had taken the lead on 25 minutes when Jack Cawley headed home from a corner, only for the referee to disallow the goal for a push in the six-yard box. The breakthrough finally arrived on 32 minutes. Freddie Sears tested the goalkeeper with a driven shot and, when the ball spilled loose, Terrell Egbri reacted quickest to fire Maldon ahead.
The lead was doubled nine minutes later with a sweeping counter-attack, Sears arriving at the far post to finish a precise cross. Felixstowe continued to probe, with Gilchrist firing over from a tight angle on 42 minutes, before Sears clipped the bar in added time at the end of a breathless first half.
Maldon struck decisively after the restart. On 52 minutes, Sears raced clear down the right and finished confidently into the far corner to make it 3–0. Egbri added his second soon after, capitalising on a defensive mix-up to extend the advantage to four.
Felixstowe kept pressing in search of a consolation but found chances hard to come by. Wright produced a tremendous flying save with ten minutes remaining, and a late move involving Zak Brown, Sam Ford and Josh Mayhew ended with the ball being cleared off the line. Will Jones created a another chance at the end and Josh Mayhew saw his effort well saved
In the end, Maldon’s clinical finishing and pace on the break proved the difference in a scoreline that did not fully reflect Felixstowe’s early promise.

@glynjarvis1 @Gaydads Red cards can be overturned not yellows, this was a second yellow.
English

@Gaydads Video evidence is clear. Appeal the decision and it will be nullified. We (Grays Ath) had a sending off at Bowers and appealed it a won. These things happen.

Well, that was an exciting match! NOT! “We lost our first match in the last 8, it’s not the end of the world” Barrie Drewitt-Barlow CEO Maldon & Tiptree FC #getagrip

@pje7 @MaldonTiptreeFC 8-9 of them know they will start next game however they play.We need more hungry players not the ones that have been round the block.
English

I will praise and defend @MaldonTiptreeFC to the death when they deserve it but I will rightly criticise them too when deserved and if the players can't admit we were terrible and take the criticism we are in big trouble
English

English

@Willwilko82 No chance. A couple of wins here or there and they’re fine.

English

@Willwilko82 If it’s anyone it’ll be Leeds. But at the moment they’re looking good, so just have to hope that their form drops off.
