The sox also sucked when you were a kid, but that’s a different story. Ticket prices being so high are 150% a result of ticket brokers. But not in the way you think. The real issue is Ticketmaster or the other primary sellers using “big data” to basically try and become the scalper. Ticketmaster uses the data they gather from their ticket resale platform (mostly brokers), verified fan presale signups, etc to gauge interest of a show/game. They then control the “face value” prices (dynamic pricing), allotment released (holdbacks to garner demand), etc. the ticket system is broken and while it may have started from ticket scalping, it’s 100000% on the greed of a giant monopoly (Ticketmaster) that no one wants to actually see…

I think this is a problem born of scalping becoming legal. The ticket broker sites arrived, and showed teams how much they could actually charge for tickets—so the face value in most places exploded. When I was a kid, you could sit in the bleachers at Fenway for like $6.

Parents not being able to afford to take their kids to games anymore is probably a bigger factor. There are way less kids at Lambeau now than even 20 years ago. There are still a lot of kids at Wrigley because a lot of Cubs fans have money but there aren’t a ton of fan bases like that.

I do not want a first baseman at the trade deadline. I very much enjoy the Romy/Toro platoon. I don’t think there’s (realistically) a singular player that you can add who would give you better production against both righties and lefties, while also playing good defense.
