#AlMayadeen's correspondent to South Lebanon, Fatima Ftouni, was martyred earlier today in an Israeli airstrike that directly targeted journalists in the South covering the Israeli aggression on Lebanon. Fatima was in a vehicle clearly labeled "Press" alongside other journalists, including Al-Manar's Ali Sheaib. Fatima was known and loved by all her colleagues, either from her time as an editor in Al Mayadeen Net, or as a correspondent for Al Mayadeen covering the Israeli war of aggression on South Lebanon. Known for her bravery, steadfastness, and forever love for her profession and her constant desire to deliver the message of her people's resistance to the world, she will continue to live within our hearts for the joy she brought us all as a colleague with her warmth, and her dedication to her field. This is not the first time that Al Mayadeen's correspondents have been targeted. Soon after "Israel" began its war on Lebanon, Al Mayadeen's correspondent Farah Omar and Cameraman Rabih Me'mari were martyred in an Israeli aggression on November 21, 2023. Al Mayadeen's Ghassan Najjar and Mohammad Reda were also martyred in another Israeli attack on journalists on October 25, 2024. This is part of "Israel's" systematic attacks on journalists. In the past three years, "Israel" has killed hundreds of journalists across the region, all in an attempt to prevent the broadcasting of the reality of its crimes. #LebanonUnderAttack #Lebanon

Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba
I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film
As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes
It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions.
But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken

@KevorkAlmassian @ottomottox The ethnic Armenians I knew growing up were deeply traumatized by the war — in some cases even more than other Christians, though those in the North seemed somewhat less affected, at least from what I saw back then. And the Syrians… I still weep for them. They were so gentle.

@KevorkAlmassian @ottomottox Mr. Almassian, maybe that person is lying, maybe they know it — maybe it's not even a real person. But we also have to admit it could be something else. We Lebanese Christians carry trauma; many of us grew up with fear, taught to expect it. Delusion is greatly common among us.

Christians left Lebanon because they were granted citizenship in places like Canada. They left because they found better opportunities somewhere else. They left to study abroad and stayed abroad. They left because Lebanon's economy is in tatters. But they didn't leave because they were targeted for their faith. That's a lie and you know it.

@pomegranatoid @VintageVault8 I have been aware of professor El Jallad's work for quite some time now. It is not that I disagree with his findings, but I still happen to think that a lot remains to be proven, this way or the other. I am not sure if he himself would disagree with this.

Actually it doesn’t help, because it’s wrong. Arabic is native to the Levant. The earliest Arabic inscriptions in Safaitic, Hismaic, & Nabataean were found in the Syrian & Jordanian desert. Biblical names are native to the Levant too, just not in their westernized forms.
