@MCUK_Official Sad to see the final trace of it going. Will the ITV2 block continue as 'ITV Kids' or is it the end of ITV broadcasting for children?

So grateful that I grew up with CITV. It's sad to see it finally vanish from our TV screens on the 10th April. Shame that none of the future's children will grow up watching CITV and would either watch stuff online or be growing up with stupid brainrot. Thank you, CITV! RIP

@DavidPerksActor So awful that you guys only had *four months* notice to wrap up the show! I dread to think how many wonderful scripts were jettisoned and guest actors didn't get their chance to shine. Personally I think the writers should have just left the series 'open' for possible return.

And talking of Midlands shows I was very proud to have been involved with, it was two years ago today that we wrapped on #BBCDoctors for the final time. Thanks to all the fans who've kept in touch and are still keeping the memories alive! Bazza sums up how we all felt...

@PhilipRalph9 @ednewtonrex Pls share! c.org/nbVmPNfht7 If linear TV goes: reduced work for actors, writers, crew. Less incentive to create new content (will be legacy box sets only) & will mean end of all soaps (don't fit streaming model). Equity, Writers & Musicians' Unions should be opposing this!

A TV camera operator friend has worked for 20 years but recently had to borrow money due to the employment crisis in the creative industries. This irritating kind of dismissive reply about the lack of action from Government wouldn’t happen if I worked in steel or built weapons.

@the_beardedsina She's never toured or performed live? When Clannad (the group she was in until 1982, with her sister Moya and their brothers) did their farewell concerts a few years ago I was really hoping she'd join them on stage, but sadly not.

@PhilipRalph9 Going further back, what about the Danziger brothers. Making low-budget but high-quality films and TV series and they would hire anyone willing to work hard and, in the case of actors, play multiple roles. We need more of that entrepreneurial spirit and can-do attitude!

The spirit of innovation, experiment and lo-fi 'get it made' production values that led to #ThisLife is desperately needed in TV production right now. No stars, no guardrails, no HETV budget, no socials campaign - give unknowns the chance to tell their stories and we all benefit.
Michael Hogan@michaelhogan

Booze! Drugs! Sweary lawyers! Egg in the buff! Ricky Gervais' big break! It's 30 years today since #ThisLife arrived on our TV screens and BBC4 are rerunning it tonight at 10pm. I wrote about how it discovered a generation of talent and changed TV drama theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2…

@RadioTimes It was lovely to see the return of so many familiar old Nonnatus faces for the funeral of their dearly loved friend and former colleague, Sister Monica Joan, as well as flowers and cards of condolence from those couldn't make it. Oh, wait..! Was a good episode, nonetheless.

@MrSteveBee @motelcrossroads And there were many more people around in 2001 who remembered the original. I think another reboot now would be highly unlikely because it's much less part of the national psyche.

@CheshireOne @briansteed40 Jane Rossington didn't want to do it for the long haul, but warned the producers that killing Jill would be suicide. I think that was true in that many fans of the original series drifted away. Agree that the early timeslot (after CITV) didn't help it to grow its audience.

@briansteed40 I watched the original Crossroads (some as not born when it started) and the new series, killing off Jill and losing Adam was a huge mistake and probably killed it as many original fans would hate it. It should have been on around 6 to 6.30 like the original.

Such a shame ITV didn't make a go of it. I personally loved it both the original RE-boot then allso the bizzare RE-RE boot (controversially) It did start off so promising #Crossroads

@MichaelBoltonA @motelcrossroads And sadly it launched at a time of major structural change within ITV, where they wanted to drastically reduce their studio footprint. The Midlands didn't stand a chance. The BBC were doing the same, closing Pebble Mill.

@motelcrossroads The early reboot was good but getting rid of Adam and Jill so early was a bad move.Especially loved the gorgeous Cindy Marshall Day as boozy Tracey Booth. The writing was on the wall when they decided to camp it up.

@Marky3330 @motelcrossroads It did well for its (technically) daytime slot. Reminiscent of the flawed logic behind the axing of that other ill-fated Midlands soap, Doctors. Doctors was also highly rated for the slot, but looked down upon as a daytime show and not given a chance to grow its audience.

@motelcrossroads This is when I started watching and loved it. Sadly ITV didn't give it a full support as they wanted bigger ratings 😭. Hopefully one day these will go onto DVD like the classic era ❤️ #Crossroads25

@tvark TV Times went very downhill after the change, programme listings cut to the bone. Radio Times retained its quality - probably because it stayed with the BBC, whereas ITV flogged TV Times to IPC (who at least kept Look-in going for a few years). RT still has the best radio guide.

@RichardLatto The BBC filmed Charlotte Brontë's Villette twice, in 1957 and 1970. Jill Bennett was in the 1957 version. In 1970 Judy Parfitt played the lead role of Lucy Snowe. Shame if neither version exists as there don't appear to be any other screen adaptations.

@JeffHolland07 I've enjoyed seeing You Rang, M'Lord? again on Rewind TV. Tonight BBC Four showed an episode of Oh Doctor Beeching!, a forgotten gem and lovely series, which I don't think has ever been repeated though I remember it well. One of the last decent sitcoms to be made.
