@EM203mikaabu Something I have learned through my experiences is that it is important to treat others the same way you want to be treated. As a coach, educator, or peer you should always treat others with respect and have patience, as individuals with disabilities aren't always visible.

@EM203mikaabu Hi Mika this is a really great post and I am so happy you are sharing this knowledge! I have worked with children with special needs through the U.N.I.T.E. Special Soccer Program and I have family members living with disabilities.

A growing number of states now require mental heath education to teach kids about what mental health means and how to combat anxiety, depression and stress. With too many kids struggling with those issues, some states are mandating teachers add the lessons, @tvkatesnow reports.

@TODAYshow @tvkatesnow Academics can become stressful, especially for university students. It is great to be adding this to the classroom, especially to show support and spread awareness of the increasing impact education can have on mental health.

✍️📚 Time to Make Mental Health Education Essential It’s clear our society is crying out for better support when it comes to mental health education. Almost everyone seems to be struggling, yet we're left to find solutions on our own. I'm convinced that if we had access to basic knowledge and skills on navigating life's challenges from a young age, our lives would be significantly improved. It might even prevent more serious mental health issues later on. It’s puzzling, isn’t it? In an era where answers to nearly any question are just a click away, schools still don’t prioritize mental health education. Why wouldn’t we want to equip children, and ourselves, with tools to handle life’s ups and downs? Of course, there are excellent resources, like books on managing anxiety or learning coping strategies. But let’s be honest, they’re not yet treated as essential. So, what can we do? One clear step is normalizing discussions about mental health. We must stop stigmatizing it as a weakness and start seeing it as part of being human. It’s about teaching that asking for help and prioritizing emotional well-being is as vital as physical health. Growing up, I’ve seen how boys are often taught to toughen up, suppress their emotions, and deal with things alone. But I know this isn’t unique to boys, many people, regardless of gender, are conditioned to believe their feelings don’t matter in one way or another. It’s troubling that society teaches anyone, directly or indirectly, that their emotions don’t matter. But it doesn't have to stay this way! We have the power to rewrite this narrative. By embracing emotional intelligence and teaching future generations that emotions are valid, we can break this harmful cycle. Imagine a world where all children, boys and girls alike, grow up understanding that strength comes from facing emotions, not ignoring them. Mental health education isn’t just a solution; it’s an investment in a more compassionate society. It starts with us; with conversations, with advocating for change in schools and communities. Because the truth is, acknowledging emotions doesn’t make us weaker; it makes us human.

This week, New York became the first state to require all elementary, middle and high schools to teach students about mental health.

Academic stress and pressures impact many university students and their mental well-being, which is examined in the following article: journals.sagepub.com/doi/epub/10.11… Students can overcome stressors through social support, seeking mental health resources, and talking to a counsellor.

So far, Em203 has been a blast! In lesson 1, I learned about how digital technologies change the way people learn in this day and age. In lesson 2 and 3, I learned about connectivism, and I enjoyed doing the experiment where we compared our memory performance. #EM203Robin
