Joseph Odhiambo, convicted of terrorism charges,is someone I once had a conversation with,Jamaa hana mambo Mingi.
Ni jamaa amejaribu kila kitu Lakini imekataa, out of desperation and poverty, jamaa aliamua Kuenda Ku join Al-shabaab in Somalia,he was in communication with some of them.
Joseph Juma Odhiambo was first arrested in November 2019 near the Kenya–Somalia border.
He was captured in Bula Hawa (Somalia border area)
Ukijaribu Ku join a terrorist organisation
Kenyan security agencies treat it as a serious terrorism offence.
In the Kenyan law kuna kitu inaitwa Prevention of Terrorism Act,iko Section 24,na 30.
24 States,“A person who is a member of a terrorist group commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding thirty years.”
Section 30 talks about Attempting / preparing to commit a terrorist act
This is where it covers trying to join,
“A person who attempts to commit an offence under this Act commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to the penalty prescribed for that offence.”
Meaning,Even if you don’t succeed, attempting is treated almost the same as actually doing it.
The police proved beyond reasonable doubt that he was trying to join Al-shabaab, with phone evidence linking him to Al shabaab members
He was handed a 15 year sentence,he was also added another 15months of prison sentence for escaping from prison.
Nimekuchanua, trying to join a terrorist group is an offence.

INFAMOUS ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS NABBED, FIREARM RECOVERED IN SWIFT POLICE OPERATION
In a coordinated and empirical operation, law enforcement officers have dealt a decisive blow to a dangerous criminal network, culminating in the arrest of three notorious robbery with violence suspects and the recovery of a firearm.
The operation, executed yesterday at about 0104 hours, brought together a joint team of officers from Ngong Police Station and DCI, working in close collaboration with police officers from Mwea–Makutano Police Post.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the team zeroed in on the Makutano–Ngomongo area in Kirinyaga County, where the suspects had reportedly gone into hiding.
In a swift and premeditated maneuver, the officers successfully apprehended three individuals identified as Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa.
The trio is believed to be behind a recent violent robbery incident in Ngong on 12th March 2025, during which a victim was shot and seriously injured.
Upon arrest, Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa was found in possession of a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition—further cementing the suspects’ link to the violent crime.
The operation further led to the recovery of a red motorcycle, registration number KMGD 970K (TVS make), which investigators believe was used as a getaway vehicle during the commission of the crime.
Additionally, the officers recovered distinctive clothing believed to have been worn by the suspects on the day of the robbery, providing crucial evidentiary support to the ongoing investigations.
The suspects are currently being held in custody at Ngong Police Station as investigations intensify, with authorities working diligently to establish whether they are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of security agencies to protect the public and bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice.
Members of the public are encouraged to continue sharing information that can aid in the fight against crime.
