Here’s what SpaceX is looking to accomplish during Starship Flight 13
SUPER HEAVY
• Complete a successful launch and stage separation
• Perform the full boostback burn
• Test hardware and software changes designed to improve Raptor engine relight reliability
• Execute a landing burn and controlled splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico
STARSHIP
• Deploy 20 functional Starlink V3 satellites for the first time
• Test their solar arrays, antennas and connections with the Starlink network
• Use six satellites equipped with cameras to inspect Starship’s heat shield in space
• Relight a Raptor engine in space
• Test new heat-shield materials during reentry
• Complete a controlled descent and splashdown in the Indian Ocean
Because this is a suborbital test, the 20 Starlink satellites will later reenter and burn up in Earth’s atmosphere.
Flight 13 is a major test of Starship’s engines, payload deployment, reentry performance and path toward full reusability.
