Soccer parenting is a choice between two distinct energies: Force or Power. While force relies on control and manipulation to get short-term results, power arises from inner strength and leads to lasting transformation. Most sideline behavior is an attempt to use force, which is inherently limited.

Ultimately, power aligns with truth and integrity. When parents take responsibility for their emotional reactions rather than blaming referees or coaches, they regain control over their influence. Choose to be an anchor of harmony, as inner peace is what truly nurtures a child's ability to excel.

@kieronbutton17 Create recovery rituals: Short post-training decompression routines (music, journaling, meditation, family...if you're lucky, silence) help the nervous system switch off.

As a youth football/soccer coach, I've seen firsthand how the role can drain your mental health. The pressure from parents, the club, endless scheduling, dealing with kids emotions and injuries, plus the drive to "win". It adds up to mental fatigue, stress, and even anxiety. But we can fight back: 1. Set boundaries: Say no to extra commitments and prioritize self-care like walks or hobbies. 2. Build support: Join coach networks or seek therapy, you’re not alone! 3. Get trained: Mental health workshops to help you spot issues in yourself and players. 4. Practice mindfulness: Quick breathing exercises before games reset your mind. Coaches, let's normalize this convo. Your well-being matters for the kids too! #YouthSoccer #CoachMentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters

The strongest influence parents have in soccer isn’t instruction. It’s regulation. Technical input is common. Emotional regulation is less so. Kids lean toward adults who help them stay balanced.

Is it on the up? A nationwide youth sports survey conducted found the following statistics... 55% of coaches reported that parents yelled negatively at officials or their own kids. 40% experienced parents yelling at other kids. 26% of parents observed verbally abusive coaches. 16% witnessed physical confrontations between parents.

@GregBerge It’s the standards and habits that compound together exponentially. It’s the emergent force where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole that wins you championships and trophies.

Why do STANDARDS matter? Every team shoots. Every team practices. Every team competes. Every team wants to win. Every team says they work hard. So what’s the difference? It’s not talent. It’s the standards you live by: every day, every drill, every rep.

@GregBerge From my experience, most parents who yell at referees aren't angry, they're anxious. As the anxiety increases, so does the yelling.

Parents, if you’re yelling at a referee during a youth game, it’s time to self-reflect. That’s not passion. It’s deflection. This is your child’s experience, not yours. Cheer. Support. Set the example.
