The current state of the Royal Navy is absolutely dire. In terms of vessels and their state of operational readiness, we have: Two aircraft carriers, neither of which is operational; 
Six Type 45 destroyers, our most advanced surface combatants, with only one operational and currently stationed in Cyprus; 
Seven Type 23 frigates, which are older and less capable, with just three operational.
 Five Astute class nuclear powered submarines, with only one operational, possibly in the Arabian Sea. Those responsible for this shocking level of unreadiness, whether politicians, civil servants or military leaders, should be held accountable and removed from their positions. Their gross incompetence has effectively left Britain without a functioning navy. For an ancient island nation with such a proud maritime history, this is nothing short of a national disgrace.
