Graeme Souness did not "flop as a gaffer". He built a Rangers team that went on to dominate Scotland when the SPL was competitive. He failed at Liverpool but won an FA Cup. Won a cup with Galatasaray. Kept Southampton up against the odds. Fell out with the owner at Torino. Benfica was a mixed bag. He did very well at Blackburn. Injuries and the egos of certain players killed his tenure at Newcastle. Completely untrue to say he flopped as as a manager. And he knows more about football, and playing in midfield, than anyone on this app.

@rajsinghchohan It does seem to be the mentality in England though to focus on the weaknesses of players rather than how to hide them & play to their strengths Nobody moaned about Liverpool’s midfield lacking creativity under Klopp when they had Trent doing it for them for example

Souness is good at spotting some individual traits in midfielders but he doesn’t get how it all fits together both on an individual and team basis. Suspect that’s why he flopped as a gaffer. The main point he should’ve made is Rice + Anderson as a combination being sub-optimal instead of criticising Rice who has other world class traits. And a midfielder who has a combination of moving, carrying & defending as well as Rice should never be a CB.

@rajsinghchohan He didn't lie though.All Rice does is break play and recycle possession. Good to have him but most times a team needs more than that. He is just an expensive Henderson
