Growing up in playing in my local academy in Benin, I played defensive midfield. And I was called the “blocking 4”, that’s the shield in front of the CBs.
What do you mean 6 is the DM. I’ve never heard “blocking 6” in my life before.. my amateur football career wasn’t a lie please.
And we also thought 7 was LW because Ronaldo owned that position with the no 7 jersey, until we were corrected that 7 is RW, and 11 is LW. So yes, we had coaches.

We call it 4 because DM in Africa is called blocking 4 which means the one protecting the back 4 but from the beginning a DM has always been refered as a 6.
4 and 5 are center backs 😂😂.
