Aside from my enjoyment of the films themselves, they were a real "mask off" moment for nerds and self-appointed authorities on the characters, letting me see how hypocritical, superficial, petulant and just plain awful many were

Everything everyone hates about current films is about money. Studios use to cut costs wherever they could which usually meant people didn’t get paid much. Now unions make it so actors and crew are paid adequately so now they cut costs everywhere else

Filmmaking has definitely gotten duller across the board. It's no longer about "filling your frame with personality and life." It's about "making your frame as functional as possible and nothing more." If you want to show a man crossing a room to grab a woman's hand, that's all you need to show. No need to pepper your frame with background actors or furniture or colored walls. Just make the background sterile, white, and empty and no one will notice or care.
