We like to think that child labor exploitation for tech advancement is happening "over there," but it's happening in our homes as well. The rights and dignity of children everywhere are at risk when we normalize big tech's exploitative practices anywhere.

I believe the piece comes at a critical point when many Americans are paying attention to the plight of children in central Africa who are at the center of a struggle over natural resources that power technological innovation.

If AI ethicists need a doctorate in CS to be qualified to critique AI, then AI researchers need to have a doctorate in ethics/humanities/philosophy/HCI/etc. to be qualified to build AI.
