Beyoncé gave birth to twins after a high-risk pregnancy. She developed toxemia and preeclampsia, had an emergency C-section, and described the delivery as extremely difficult. At one point (in her docu) saying one of her twins’ hearts stopped in the womb. Less than a year later, she had about 8 months to prepare for Coachella. Rehearsals didn’t even fully ramp up until ~115 days before the show, and she was putting in 8–12 hour days while still recovering from major surgery. She lost 100 pounds and then stepped on that stage and delivered THE GREATEST coachella performance of all time. In Homecoming, she made it very clear how physically and mentally intense that process was and that she would never push herself like that again. And yet… look at the contrast. Men can get on stage unprepared, forget lyrics, sit down mid-performance, and it’s framed as “relatable,” “funny,” “he’s healing,” whatever narrative people want to spin that day. But if a woman… especially someone like Beyoncé…showed up anything less than perfect? It wouldn’t be a joke. It would be “she’s washed,” “she doesn’t have it anymore,” “her career is over.” Women in entertainment are expected to be superhuman AT ALL TIMES, even after literally risking their lives to give birth. Meanwhile, men are allowed to be mediocre in public and still be protected by the narrative. Men should be stoned. The double standard is exhausting and it’s time we start being honest.

This comparison actually proves the opposite of what you think it proves. Sydney Sweeney released 5 movies in the last 12 months. Americana: $500K. Eden: $2.8M. Christy: $1.9M. Reality went straight to streaming. Four consecutive disasters before The Housemaid landed. The Housemaid made $399M because a Freida McFadden bestseller with 4 million copies sold did the marketing for free. Put almost any recognizable actress in that role and it clears $200M. The book carried the box office. Now look at The Drama. $28M budget. Returned it in 7 days. #2 A24 wide release opening ever. 80% of the audience under 35. Original script, no source material, no franchise safety net. Just Zendaya's name on a poster for a Kristoffer Borgli dark comedy. Zendaya is running a completely different playbook. Spider-Man. Dune. Challengers. The Drama. She prints money in franchises, then spends that equity on original work with top-tier directors. She's building an Emmy and Oscar path. Every project is a deliberate choice from a position of strength. Sweeney has the talent. The project selection has been uneven. The $399M number looks like a win until you realize four other bets lost money the same year. One hit out of five is a 20% batting average. The Drama's $34M worldwide in week one on an original script is a flex most actors in Hollywood cannot pull off right now. One of these careers is architected. The other is still figuring out the blueprint.

Self hatred is just narcissism wearing a cheap disguise. You think your failures are uniquely catastrophic, your awkwardness is unprecedented, your face is the most embarrassing anyone has ever seen. That is not humility. Humility means thinking about yourself less, not thinking worse of yourself. What you are doing is inverted grandiosity. It could be said the same about self pity too. It is just narcissism disguised as depth. It feels deep but it is mostly entitlement in a sad mask. You tell yourself you expect nothing, that you are worthless, yet the theatrical despair betrays a quiet demand. You want someone to disagree. You want the universe to finally acknowledge your hidden value. It is not that your pain is fake. It is that ordinary discomfort feels unbearable when you have no other way to feel special. The daily frictions of life a rude email, a canceled plan, a mild embarrassment are not enough. So you upgrade them to tragedies. You need a storyline with real weight because a storyline with no weight would reveal the terrifying possibility that you are just another person having a normal Tuesday. That is the deeper narcissism. You would rather be a tragic hero than a nobody. You would rather be broken in a unique and beautiful way than admit that your problems are mostly the same boring problems everyone has. Self hatred becomes the costume you wear to avoid the plain face of ordinary life. And the joke is that ordinary life, with all its small annoyances and small joys, is where actual peace lives. But you cannot get there as long as you need your suffering to be special. The hard truth is that pain is ordinary and no one is coming to certify your suffering as specially tragic. The real distinction is between wanting to take responsibility and wanting to be the reason. Taking responsibility fixes what you broke and moves on. Wanting to be the reason clings to guilt like a trophy because being the cause means you still matter. That is the trap. Your self hatred is not a moral position. It is just another way of keeping yourself at the center of every story.

It’s clear that Kamala picked Tim because she wanted to scale the work he’s done in Minnesota on a national level. They would have been the most progressive administration we’ve ever had.

Actually Beyoncé was the first artist they ever offered $10M but that meant Coachella would have to keep the rights to her performance and the footage so instead she struck a deal to take less pay and ended up making $20M from it for her Netflix Homecoming documentary.
