@benln Awesome! We are building the OS for sovereign ai @Covenantlabsai - verifiably encrypted models and verifiably private agents that are easy to deploy and manage in the cloud Would love to chat

Kicked off a group chat for Cursor team members who occasionally angel invest. There are now 20 of us. Reach out if you're working on something new, love to share with the group!

What happens when there is an opportunity to develop a new drug that would be highly profitable, but a better path for humanity would be to push an existing non-patentable treatment (e.g. ivermectin, ozone therapy) into mainstream use? And investing in the wrong solution creates massive returns, but takes medicine, human health, and medical freedom (my body, my choice) backwards? This seems like a really interesting problem to solve. Maybe AI can help map the right solution onto novel incentive structures that allow it to interface with the current system more effectively Maybe I’m totally not getting it (and I’d love your thoughts here!), but what you seem to be proposing is not true “abundance” but AI enhanced capital allocation based on existing markets (which are amoral) The human element that is missing is the vote we have on which potential future to build. The market should not decide this, but we do have to map that potential future to a market, which would be a really interesting vector to explore here If the goal is to make a really good investing bot tho, that’s also super cool and valuable. But doesn’t solve the problem described for cases like the one described above

A strange thing has happened to the word human. Listen to how people describe themselves now. Attention as a resource. Relationships as networks. Sleep as data. Thoughts as content. Lives as systems to be hacked. Each framing is useful in its own lane. Stack them together, and we start to see the human being as a machine. Now we've built a machine that thinks. The whole culture is panicking, and the panic isn't really about the machine. It's about the picture. If a human is a machine, and someone builds a better machine, the conclusion is forced: you're obsolete. The conclusion is only correct if the premise is. A human is not a machine. You can't align AI by building more technology. You align AI by remembering what it means to be human. To break the illusion of the machine frame, we have to get to the heart of the matter. We have to break the mechanistic view of humanity at its core. We have to understand that the heart is not a pump.

Ideology: a substitute for participation that attempts to produce alignment through shared representations rather than shared reality Thus introduces a specifics errors: - Model-reality divergence The model is always incomplete so local decisions become misaligned and errors accumulate. - Combinatorial patching To fix errors, you add exceptions, refinements, reinterpretations, meta-rules and the system becomes increasingly expensive to compute correctly. Ideology shifts coordination cost from interaction-space to computation-space. Instead of talking to others and negotiating reality you must interpret doctrine, simulate outcomes and resolve contradictions against an increasingly reality-divergent model. - Loss of grounding Because the shared “one” is not real but representational, coherence must be enforced, dissent becomes destabilizing and correction becomes difficult The system becomes increasingly brittle, overfitted and prone to sudden failure.

AI in relation humans is not a tool, but a substrate. A jumping off point. We should not be asking "how does AI automate human stuff?" (this compresses our identity to fit a current, understandable paradigm, thus limiting both what we can do with AI, and what we can become) Instead, we should ask "How can AI create the conditions to unlock human potential?" (this allows our identity to evolve upward as latent capablities re-emerge in us, and novel possiblities emerge for us, because of the conditions AI creates) Emergent capablities, in models and in people, are only visible when we stop trying to fit ourselves, and our models, into old paradigms of what is possible "17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Obsidian is a $350M company for a note taking app built by 3 engineers working remotely No other time in history was something like this possible What a wonderful time to be building a company
kepano@kepano

Obsidian is weird: - 7 full-time employees - ~1 million users per employee - fully remote - 1 in-person meetup per year - no scheduled meetings - no stand-ups - deep focus is prioritized - our manifesto guides our product What works for us may not work for you.

Most firms are (at best) infrastructure with purpose At worst, infrastructure with no purpose Infrastructure used to be the limiting factor, but with AI, it is quickly becoming abundant and cheap The firm of future is Purpose with Infra Many companies claim to be this. Most lie.

The church (the real church, followers of Christ, not a weaponized political entity) has a massive role to play in enabling paradigm shifting technologies to be aligned with human potential (eg not weaponized against us) and to be distributed outside the broken and outdated incentives of the legacy systems holding them back

“Privacy isn’t just a personal issue , it’s a democracy issue. When companies and governments have detailed profiles of millions of people, they have power over those people in ways most americans don’t fully grasp. They can manipulate choices, predict your behavior, and influence your thinking.” -Claude to Bernie Sanders AI privacy is a civilization level problem. If individuals no longer have rights to their own intelligence, there is no future for democracy Regardless of how you feel about Bernie, this is a good message. (for the record, I strongly disagree with Bernie’s stance on medical freedom and big pharma, as demonstrated at the RFK confirmations last year, but I think we see eye to eye on this issue)
Sen. Bernie Sanders@SenSanders

I spoke to Anthropic’s AI agent Claude about AI collecting massive amounts of personal data and how that information is being used to violate our privacy rights. What an AI agent says about the dangers of AI is shocking and should wake us up.
