The Dutch government sent me a free cervical cancer self test. Coming from the US, this is just so cool to me.

@SOBScharity Things that helped in the early days - a suicide loss survivor told me I will survive this. Another friend who’d experienced suicide loss said it was so physically painful it felt like being set on fire. That was oddly comforting. Find a support group/folks who’ve been there

Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide
Hello SoBS family, we'd love to hear from you! 💜 We were recently asked: "How can I support someone who has been affected by suicide?" Please share your thoughts and experiences so we can create a resource that helps others understand how they can offer support. -The SoBS Team

@SOBScharity At some point they might want to talk about the good memories of their loved one, but in the early days, for me at least, I was so traumatized by how he died that I couldn’t access those memories. Years later, I like being asked and talking about him. Needs change over time.

@SOBScharity It’s intense grief, and it’s also pretty severely traumatic. My family are victims of a violent crime. That it was self inflicted doesn’t change the nightmares, guilt, anxiety, shame, ptsd. This creates different needs v. Other kinds of loss.

We can make new festivals. We can make new trackers. We can support smaller existing ones and make them bigger. We do not need this organization. You do not have to choose a “lesser evil”. It’s not “support @PENamerica or nothing”. We are creative people. We can create better.
PEN America@PENamerica

"How many festivals bring to the United States creative people from around the world to talk about their art, to debate and discuss the harsh conditions under which they work? How many organizations keep track of imprisoned authors?" (9/x)

So many other writing organizations exist, including other PEN branches if you really wanna stick w/them. @pen_int exists.

No non-profit is justified in acting immorally because they receive funding. Pull your funding, send your donations elsewhere. We can also create something new, something better. Do not settle for this. Don’t let them trick you into a scarcity mindset.
PEN America@PENamerica

"But I wonder whether these writers really appreciate exactly who will be most hurt if they achieve their goal. How many organizations exist that raise tens of thousands of dollars to support translators and emerging writers?" (8/x)

I was a PEN fellow in 2017. I’m so ashamed. I’m so disgusted. @PENamerica you have lost your soul, your integrity, your values, and you’ve rendered your mission hollow. I don’t even know what else to say. I suppose it won’t matter to you anyway.

@secondshelfbks @ambernoelle This kind of shit is why “Nightbitch” is so important and meaningful (in addition to hilarious) - motherhood is such a ripe time/experience for creativity, for the strange weird and feral, but people are so fucking condescending and dismissive of mothers and anything they do

When I was being attacked by my campus admins and police it was really really intriguing to find out that I could sue the university president personally for suppressing my speech. Do with that information what you will.
