@ASBMB However not everything is doom and gloom. Many ppl have pointed out the orgs in and outside of their academic/industry settings that have provided support to them. There is community available to you too! Just prepare to not instantly be understood by your peers (3/3) #LGBTQinBMB

@ASBMB My suggestion to others who are in the process of coming out is to be prepared for your identity to be ignored by most scientists around you, either because it's inconvenient to them to see you as your true self or because they are ignorant to people who are #LGBTinSTEM (2/)

@ASBMB A2 (a): I can't say any one group has helped me specifically as a part of the #LGBTQinSTEM community. I have been supported by multiple orgs such as ASBMB and the @GCTLC as a scientist, writer, and student! My identity has definitely not hindered me in these orgs #LGBTQinBMB

@ASBMB A1: I celebrate #PrideMonth by taking more time for myself and my #LGBTQ friends to hang out and enjoy the beginning of summer! I love being in the lab but we're at the sweet spot of temperatures in June and I can't let it all go to waste! #LGBTQinBMB

Hi all! I'm Inayah (they/them), a PhD candidate in biochemistry with a focus on biophysics at @GC_BiochemPhD! I am studying in the Goss lab at @Hunter_College, where I also teach an intro to chemistry lab every semester. And I was given express permission to be late! 😉

I entered the @HunterACERT Spring Book Raffle and won Difficult Subjects by Ahad-Legardy and Poon! Sometimes STEM professors underestimate how much they will be speaking about things like race and gender during their lessons and aren't adequately prepared. I'm excited to read!

I entered this year, but I have no confidence in my bracket 😭 I am not really up to date on the rankings of everyone's methods! But I love fluorescence-based experiments.

I take mine in diagonals instead of straight across, I've had plenty of labmates who didn't think that was normal, but this is absolutely deranged!

Willingness to let you work at your own pace! A PhD is a marathon, not a race, and personally I think its better to set boundaries on hours and weekends than spend every second at the lab (unless that's what you like to do).
