For Luis Medina, Ph.D., clinical neuropsychologist, associate processor at the University of Houston and one of the #BrightMinds in Alzheimer’s and Dementia research, membership in @ISTAART has been instrumental for him in developing a circle of colleagues and collaborators within the field. “ISTAART was what really introduced me to the Alzheimer's Association and to AAIC as a volunteer more than 10 years ago. … It has been extremely rewarding in my career trajectory because it connected me across the globe with fantastic people and fantastic mentors — people who've become collaborators and dear colleagues of mine.” Dr. Medina, along with the members of ISTAART representing more than 120 countries, share a common goal: to pursue knowledge, collaborations and breakthroughs in order to find more effective ways to detect, treat and prevent Alzheimer's and other dementias. “It's been extremely rewarding to find that community and that network. This work really is multidisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and we need each other in order to find a cure.” Are you a dementia professional? BREAKING: Results from U.S. POINTER, reported today at #AAIC25, show that lifestyle interventions that simultaneously target risk factors protect cognitive function in older adults at increased risk for cognitive decline and dementia — protecting cognition from normal age-related decline for up to two years. bit.ly/USPointerRelea…
