Reposting this just to say: the CDC recommends a second 2025-2026 COVID booster for elderly and/or immunocompromised people… optimally 6 months after your last booster, but as early as 3 months. Keep your beloved older grandmas protected by reminding them!

Ie. If they got boosted in September, they could get another booster now or optimally March. Remember, we generally have 2 major COVID waves… Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer.

Academia isn't a calling—it's a job. Stop glorifying burnout. Clock in, do great work, clock out. Your worth isn't measured in unpaid overtime

@LocasaleLab I appreciate this thread. I learned so much from both sides of the argument. Please write an op-Ed during your holiday break (if you take one) and shop it to Wall Street journal 🙃🙃🙃. This needs to be heeded before it’s too late. We are currently in denial as academics, I fear.

Academia already did what you’re proposing. Universities are now run like businesses with professional administrators, branding strategies, risk management, consultants, and KPI dashboards. The result hasn’t been better research or teaching. It’s been the transformation of universities into brand-management and lifestyle companies, where prestige, expansion, and revenue extraction matter more than scholarship or education. Research and teaching don’t reliably maximize short-term financial returns, so they get crowded out. What grows instead is administration because once an administrative class is established, its primary function becomes self-preservation and expansion, not mission fulfillment. This is exactly what happens when a nonprofit adopts corporate logic without corporate accountability. You don’t get efficiency. You get mission drift and an institution optimized to look successful rather than to be successful.

@LocasaleLab It's funny. Defenders of the academy often say we need the universities precisely because they don't function like for-profit corporations.
