Roblox will additionally run games through trials to ensure engagement is legitimate and not from fake or bot accounts. To publish for Ages 16+ & Trusted Friends, you now need: - An account in "good standing"; - An age check; and - An account that is at least 2 days old. Any user on the platform, whether they meet any of the requirements, can still publish games for personal use. Roblox is stating they chose this requirements because "most creators already meet many of the criteria" and it will "make it more difficult for bad actors to bypass our moderation systems". Lastly, Roblox will make that transition by providing 100,000 users with a Free Roblox Plus subscription for 6 months. To be eligible, a user may have a minimum of 100 hours of total playtime on their game in the past month & no major violations of Roblox's Community Standards.

Am I the only one that actually REALLY agrees with this update? I feel like $5 a month is nothing compared to what other platform upload fees are. Also, this is extremely beneficial to online safety. I’m not saying this would fully stop it, but it definitely will greatly decrease the amount of these perverted con/club games weirdos post on Roblox.
I fully understand not everyone is able to afford the $5 a month fee, especially young creators who have no income… I see that perspective. However, overall I think this is the best thing Roblox could do to keep the platform safe 👀

The backlash from the “Having Roblox+ publish games” makes no sense to me. $5/m to publish on a platform that offers hosting, data storage, and a massive global audience all while making the platform safer? Sign me up, now and forever.
As a developer, if you can’t make that money back with a game then you may need to reconsider some things and assess why you’re actually mad at this situation. Back in the day you used to NEED Builders Club to publish more than 10 games, and OBC (20/month) to DevEx for that matter. And to my knowledge, with this change you’re still able to create and test games within groups without paying anything—just not publish publicly. Is there something I’m missing or misinformed on, because all of this seems rather performative?

My hot take is Roblox wouldn't be forced to do nearly as many large scale safety reforms if parents properly monitored their kids and took advantage of parental controls that do and will exist.
