@jlkurtz I am a Michigan fan and a Big Ten fan. And it appears that you big 12 guys have an issue with the big 10. The Big Ten has built their brand over 120 years. Why should they have to share anything with anybody in college football or athletics? You guys didn’t build your brand.

Why would you say you enjoy college football? What drew you to it in the first place?

For a commercial loan to a low-risk borrower, like a university athletic department, the rate would typically be lower; simply becuase the risk to the lender is low. In PE deals with businesses, at today’s rates, the primary loan would be in the high single digits and a mezzanine loan would be well above 10%. That’s my experience anyway.

So at this point, is anybody in the Big 12 going to actually use the $30 million loan? Cincy: No UCF: No Houston: No BYU: No Tech: I assume no KU: I assume no Utah: I assume no Am I missing others who have already publicly turned it down?

@JeffTexas3 @jlkurtz 10% isnt extraordinarily high for a $30 million loan where they dont get their hands on anything propietary at your institution imo. BUT its still a pretty big gamble in a really unstable environment.

I do not expect Iowa State will either, however I think we fans are missing a few elements: First, a that deal was really for the big12 office and future broadcast rights. The loan offer to schools was probably a nice-to-have tag-on. Second, while 10% is high, I bet it’s negotiable so maybe it could actually be gotten for less. And if a athl dept wanted an easy bridge loan for a year or two, for a specific purpose, it’s not terrible.

@jlkurtz Best guess is honestly that BY probably got "less " resistance to it, basically a "go for it, we wont stop you" ....but he probably oversold how many schools are gonna do it. And maybe even got commitals at some point but then maybe some cold feet after
