Lenny Henry demands Britain cough up £18 trillion in reparations, insisting “All Black British people deserve it for slavery.” This ignores Britain’s historic stand: abolishing the slave trade in 1807 and unleashing the Royal Navy’s West Africa Squadron, which seized 1,600 ships and freed 150,000 Africans at massive cost in blood and treasure. Yet today, per the Global Slavery Index, Eritrea, Mauritania, Nigeria, and Jamaica (Henry’s parental homeland) still suffer shocking levels of modern slavery. Billing today’s British taxpayers for 200-year-old sins while turning a blind eye to ongoing African and Caribbean horrors? Pure selective outrage and hypocrisy. Focus on ending slavery now, not chasing guilt cheques. Maybe the comedian should stick to jokes instead of peddling selective history.

I met a lot of Trumps in my industry, and I met a lot of people who called themselves “artists” then chose vanity over humanity because it bought them fame. We can live in a world without this manipulation, but we’ll have to choose to do so. Believe me, they don’t make it easy.
