💕 (via DailyMail)
@knuckle310@fivelitresoda Well thats the thing though, it is being saved. If the mona lisa was locked up in a closet it would be pretty shitty because it was made to be experienced and shared. Games are no different, to preserve a game means to make it playable as it is meant to be experienced like that.
@knuckle310@CeoOfMarie_ Similarly, if you pick up garbage someone abandoned, is it really stealing? It is no longer a product being sold, thus it does not harm the original creation if they abandon it and the ones preserving and trying to recreate are not profiting from it.
@knuckle310@rinsass If your society is full of people like you, is this why there are so many stories from your culture or one man breaking the law and becoming a villain to fix something broken in the system? Is the only way to fix any problem in society there for someone to become evil? Truly sad.
@knuckle310@rinsass Your often companies kill games. And companies are not creators, people who work for companies are. Companies are soulless and shouldnt be viewed with reverence.
@knuckle310@rinsass Sometimes the law is bad. One of the first things I learned in criminology.
Think about this: the law that prevents porn from being uncensored in Japan. Is it a law that does good?
@knuckle310@BukhariCorpus@rinsass No. Not at all.
Many programs are made that way and are perfectly legal, such as the SAMBA project using in most NAS products.

Or the Wine program that powers the Steam Deck

@knuckle310@OCynotis A global release of said game (the target of the server reimplementation) is released under overseas jurisdiction, and has been legally obtained by the users, where the laws are clear that clean-room reverse engineering is permitted.
@knuckle310 Like there are cases of law being peacefully changed and that's amazing but it's rosey thought to think all bad laws get removed peacefully
@knuckle310 If the law is immoral it's the person's duty to stand against it. Both via official protest channels and non compliance.
Better laws rarely come from peaceful protest my friend
