How one email from a @Meta recruiter changed how I look at recruiting A few months into joining OYO’s Tech Talent Acquisition team, barely any real corporate TA experience, still figuring things out. I received this email from a recruiter at Meta for a role in London and yes this was the same week Facebook officially became Meta. What blew my mind was not the brand. It was the effort The recruiter had clearly done homework on my profile, past companies, career moves, domains.. The message was thoughtful, personal and human This was pre LLM era, No AI assist, No templates, No shortcuts Yet he built instant rapport, Without a single conversation. That moment set a benchmark for me. I remember thinking This is how I want to operate If I do this job I want to do it properly I eventually said no to the opportunity I was not ready for relocation to London I did not feel ready for Meta’s bar yet And I wanted more time learning in a fast moving ambiguous environment at OYO But the email stayed with me. It taught me that great recruiting is not about spamming profiles. It is about intent curiosity and effort Funny thing, Years later we talk about AI changing recruiting. But the biggest differentiator is still the same. Do you care enough to do the work?
