@JulieHRubio I’m sure you also know what comes after this verse. Men are called to be to their wives as Christ is to the Church. It’s a calling for us to die for our wives. Paul’s teaching sets a very exacting condition for men to make this valid.

I wonder how many Catholics heard a troubling sermon on Ephesians 5:21-32 yesterday. I worry about priests who approach this passage w/ humor ("We don't like to hear this one, do we? I see the married couples elbowing each other...") instead of facing the harm it has caused./1

@JulieHRubio Hey Julie, thanks for speaking up for women. Abuse in any form to any gender should never be tolerated. As a Catholic theologian, I’m sure you are familiar with the doctrine that the Bible needs to be read and interpreted in its unitive and complete context.

In life, the worst anxiety, arises from the sensation of not being able to cope. We need Jesus’ help. And so we can say to Him: “Jesus, I believe you are beside me and that you are listening to me. I bring to you my troubles. I have faith in you and I entrust myself to you”.

Only the love of Jesus can transform our life, heal our deepest hurts and set us free from the vicious circles of disappointment, anger and constant complaint.
