This is literal crack for boomers. Imagining fake scenarios that allow them to be rude to young minimum wage workers. Absolute slop.

If we’re going to save our country then it goes without saying that the majority of converts to our cause will previously have been left wing and done left wing things. We lived in a left wing world. If someone has ceased their previous behaviour and genuinely takes up our cause then I see no reason to judge them for mistakes in their past.
Madeleine@JournoMaddie

It’s no secret that I’m a professionally trained translator and I post frequently on here about how I used to be more left wing when I was younger. I translated a few pages from French into English for this website before I was in any way involved in politics. This happened several years ago when I was just the average liberal white girl who didn’t think too deeply about these issues. I took any translation opportunities that came my way when I wanted to work in that industry because I needed to build up my portfolio. Nothing I translated had anything to do with crossing the channel. You would know that and have deliberately chosen to misrepresent me. I’ve never tried to hide that I translated a few pages for this website. As far as I’m aware, it would be impossible to remove my name and face, so they’re there for everyone to see. It’s a part of my past that I’ve always known someone would want to use against me now that I’m more outspoken on these topics. Several people already knew about this and didn’t care. They know that I wouldn’t do it now and are happy to have someone like me take the time to think about issues like immigration and integration and change their mind. Men on the right constantly complain that women are left wing and there are no women in their scene. But why would women want to be near you when you treat us like this? Instead of messaging me or posting about it in a neutral way, you edited a photo of me and a friend and added love hearts. You’ve acted like a creep. This all comes across like you were jealous we were having a good time and spent all night mad about it. Meanwhile I spent yesterday and today with friends instead of raging at a stranger on the internet. I now use my skills for different purposes. Knowing French has helped me build connections in Europe and cover anti-immigration protests in France and Flanders. I understand the other side of the argument on a lot of issues because I haven’t always been the way I am now. I think that’s an asset. You can’t change someone’s mind if you don’t understand why they think the way they do. I’m willing to put my face out in public knowing that people will drag up anything they can find from my past to attack me. It would be much easier to be an internet anon who only criticises others instead of working on anything constructive but that’s not the kind of person I want to be. I’m not going to avoid speaking my mind because some coward hiding behind an anon account doesn’t like that I translated a few pages of French several years ago. Expecting everyone to have a perfect past in which they’ve always had all the correct opinions is ridiculous. It’s in no way surprising that I, a young university-educated middle-class woman, didn’t see the problem with translating those materials. Obviously I feel differently now but it’s not something I can undo or have removed from the internet. I’ve had a far greater impact doing what I do now than by translating those pages. I will continue to speak out about the problems caused by immigration. Doing what I can to raise awareness of this issue and making it easier for other women like me to share their concerns is more important to me than what anons might say about me online. Your pathetic attempt to shame me into silence hasn’t worked.

His “solution” to the far right is pure cope. He thinks low living standards are driving people to populist parties, so leftists should just “explain” that they can’t fix the economy. But Leftists have the causal chain completely backwards. Voters aren’t experiencing economic pain and then scapegoating immigrants. They already have genuine grievances about mass non white immigration and demographic change and they frame them economically because that’s the language which is socially acceptable. It’s not economic distress creating anti-immigration sentiment. It’s anti-immigration sentiment being rationalised through economics.
