After 3 incredible years and 1.6M students later, my journey at ALX Africa has come to an end. It has been a life-changing experience, during which I made a lot of friends, worked with an incredibly dedicated team, and met so many talented students. A few numbers. We scaled from a few thousand students to 1.6M students on our platform. Students loved it and many of them took more than one course: 4M total! For the famous #ALX_SE Software engineering program, our SE students made an average of 2,000 commits and our checker reviewed 180M of their projects. That’s 2B lines of code… and that was before Claude Code. They actually wrote these themselves (unless Kimba said otherwise :) A big thank you to all my SE team mates, I am so proud of what we have accomplished, and I will really miss you all. Thank you to Fred for the trust he put in me and always supporting my crazy new and disruptive ideas. Thank you to my students. It was an honor to work with you, watch you struggle but relentlessly move forward, no matter what, until you got this job. To those who are still struggling finding this job, keep pushing forward. Don’t let go. You got this. You all have worked so hard and I am so proud of you. You are the greatest thing I've ever been part of and I can't wait to see what impact you will have on the world. It’s your turn to shine now, and hopefully for some of you to give back to the community whenever you are in a position to. I hope you’ll keep sharing the good news with me when you get this internship, this job, or when you launch your company. These messages are everything to me. I got updates from the beneficiaries not long ago, and they have all come out to post evidence of how well the new vendor delivered. And to also add, thanks to Abazz, they ended up receiving two jerseys each after he refused to collect back the first ones he sent, even after stating in his previous post that he would. This further proves the point that the first jerseys delivered did not meet the expected standard because why would he want to lose a whole 300k. This is to Abazz. When issues arise, there’s no need to act based on emotions. After I called you out for not allowing me pick the winners, every step that followed seemed driven by anger. You knew what you did when those jerseys were sent out, but you assumed people would accept them that way. Not everyone is willing to be cheated. If I hadn’t spoken up, those beneficiaries would have ended up with jerseys they couldn’t confidently wear. Imagine receiving something like that as a gift from a top footballer. Imagine the excitement of being selected, only to receive something far below expectation. That would have been disappointing. I’m sure you’ve learnt from this, because situations like this affect trust and brand reputation. I hope you do better going forward. To Abazz’s friends and supporters. I hope you can now see for yourselves what blind followership looks like. Many of you were quick to call me names without taking time to understand why I spoke up in the first place. I’m sure a good number of small accounts must have had similar experience but swept under the carpet. It’s high time everything stopped. At this point, it’s only fair to acknowledge what has been revealed.
