On this week in 1968 Intel $INTC was founded in Mountain View, California by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore The two men had been among the founders of Fairchild Semiconductors in 1957 which became a profitable business and made both men personally wealthy The pair went on to leave Fairchild in 1968 to start a new startup focused on innovation called Intel Here is what Robert Noyce said in his letter to Fairchild as he resigned to start Intel “I do not expect to join any company which is simply a manufacturer of semiconductors. I would rather try to find some small company which is trying to develop some product or technology which no one has yet done. To stay independent (and small) I might form a new company, after a vacation.” Below is Intel's original business plan hand typed by Robert Noyce

SPENDING CAPS ARE THE BULL CASE FOR AI -Companies are capping employees at $200 a week or $1,000 a month, roughly $10,000 a year per person -@hamids says no other product category has spend limits anywhere near that high -The caps won't shrink AI spend. Most companies haven't even started

SERVICENOW STOCK HAS BEEN HIT HARD ... TEVIS THINKS IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY ServiceNow $NOW stock has been sold off as part of a broader "AI is going to kill SaaS" basket trade @FunOfInvesting's counterargument: ServiceNow's growth and renewal rates are holding up, and he thinks the company actually benefits from AI rather than getting disrupted by it. Tevis says ServiceNow functions as an orchestration layer, the more complex enterprise AI use cases get, the more large companies need something like it to manage them. CEO Bill McDermott's own response after that worst-ever trading day ... "We're not seeing demand slow down at all. This is something that's benefiting us, not hurting us." Tevis thinks that resilience shows up in the numbers every subsequent quarter, revealing a business model that gets helped, not hurt, by the same AI wave the market priced it down for.

BLACKROCK CEO LARRY FINK SAYS A NEW ASSET CLASS IS COMING: FUTURES ON COMPUTE "The United States is short power. We're short compute, we're short chips." Fink sees shortages ahead across all three, plus memory. And he thinks the scarcity gets financialized: "I actually believe a new asset class will be buying futures of compute." That is computing power described the way traders treat oil: a commodity scarce enough to hedge, price and trade. "We just don't have enough compute power right now."

THE BEST INVESTING QUOTE MICHAEL SIKAND KNOWS ISN'T ABOUT PICKING STOCKS. IT'S ABOUT WHAT A STOCK CAN'T DO TO YOU @michaelsikand's favorite investing quote of all time come from James Anderson at Baillie Gifford: "The asymmetric payoff structure, you can make far more if you're right about a stock than you can lose if you're wrong, is the fundamental attraction of investing in equity markets." A stock's value can go up by hundreds of thousands of percent. It can only go down 100%. That asymmetry is the entire case for taking real risk instead of playing it safe.
