So tech giants like Apple, Amazon, etc. are now offering reproductive health benefits (good) but let's be honest, the people most affected by #RoeVWade are not white-collar professionals - smacks of PR move w/o commitment to aiding long underserved communities

"Yellow" has been published in Alberta Views Magazine — It's about cutting class, stealing lipstick, and being an outsider. This is a story I wrote in Calgary, about Calgary, and I'm very grateful it was returned to the place this all started for me. albertaviews.ca/yellow/

Not enough BIPOC folks in tech? Pipeline. Not enough BIPOC folks in MFA? Pipeline. Not enough BIPOC journalists? Scholars? Film Directors? The entire culture is a pipeline problem.

I'm sick of calling racial inequality a "pipeline problem" - who built the institutional pipeline?

JK Rowling's transphobic essay fails in countless ways, but I want to focus on her underlying claim: that "woman" should be based on what she calls "biological reality" — an idea that hurts all women, trans and cis. [thread]

Many have done comprehensive rebuttals of JK Rowling's transphobic & misogynistic essay, including @Carter_AndrewJ and @kacencallender — highly recommend their work. I'm just another internet anon with a bone to pick.

We should also recognize the transphobia of JK and people like her as a special kind of misogyny. Because trans womanhood is not the same as cis womanhood, and my cis womanhood is not the same as your cis womanhood, but they are all valid, and they are all woman.

Once and still, cis men and women feel threatened when cis women insist their experiences are as valid as cis men's. We call this reaction misogyny. When cis women feel threatened by trans women in the same way, we call it transphobia.
