@krdorheim @EdwardByers Working on GCAM 7. So when UNFCCC says limit temperature to 1.5C. Which one do they use?

@EdwardByers we’re working on GCAM iamc automation. Question: do we report global mean surface temperature or global mean air temperature? @krdorheim what’s the difference?

@HMcJeon @EdwardByers As for what is the difference & why does it matter? Global (mean) surface air temperature (GSAT) will warm faster than global mean surface temperature (GMST). GMST accounts for 70% of the Earth is covered by water which has a higher specific heat capacity than air

@HMcJeon @EdwardByers It will depend on what version of GCAM you are working with! If GCAM < 7 will only report global mean air temperature, GCAM 7 reports both!
