Rereading this I feel like I didn't express myself clearly. When I said I hate applying for jobs at school districts, what I meant was I hate filling out the exhaustive/exhausting online applications many school districts use, especially when they want your resume anyway.
Congratulations to the 46th President, Joe Biden.
Your victory marks a new chapter for our country.
As we face unprecedented challenges, Americans have chosen you to lead us out of the chaos and to build a stronger community.
Today, I am hopeful for a brighter future.
For 11 years Twitter = math. But... Angry, fed up, progressive, ex-hippie turns to symbolic protest and sinks to his level. Childish? Of course. But anger management is much healthier than sitting home crying.
@DrBrianLack@gfletchy@gregtangmath@SteveWyborney@JSchwartz10a@bstockus Are we talking about the situations the symbols represent or the written equations? Are we asking children to act out situations or fill in the blanks? Are they seeing it for themselves (making sense of it) or trying to remember what to do?
@adinam225@heidifessenden@jillrt@mrlevesquemath Creating the learning environment where children are able to work independently and know what to do when they “don’t know what to do” is so important. Allows teachers to focus on the learning and not always on management.
@heidifessenden@jillrt@mrlevesquemath Jumping in late here, but I think listening is such an underused way to assess because when we listen, we want to give students our full attention, but classroom teachers' attention is often pulled in so many different directions...

Number Talks are intended to help children develop computational fluency in all situations. Children are not practicing Number Talks to get better at Number Talks or “mental math.” Number Talks are a powerful tool for learning foundational math. @kathyandsue@NumberTalksK2
Here’s the book that helps K-2 teachers create a safe, engaging, learning environment where the needs of the range of learners are met as students are appropriately challenged.
@bstockus The important thing to keep in mind about the Four Stages of Using Models is that they describe levels of children's thinking - not levels of a lesson. During any Number Talk, some children will need a model and others will ignore the model since they don't need it.
@DingleTeach Plus each child comes with differences. One knows sounds but isnt looking for meaning. Another doesn’t know enough sounds as tools. It can’t be programmed. Teachers have to listen and analyze.
@DingleTeach It cant be one or the other approach. If phonics is emphasized too much, kids stop looking for meaning. If they have no phonetic skills, they work too hard. To me Whole language meant the integration of all that kids need to learn to read.
@KentHaines I haven't thought about this game for awhile. My students used to love it and it was one of the activities that engaged me as well since it goes beyond the obvious.
@heidifessenden I agree. This is an important article. I am glad it is being rediscovered. It was written a long time ago. Too many important ideas get lost when we focus too much on the publication dates.
@heidifessenden@triciaebarvia We cant always know what we dont know. But we can always try to listen, to ask instead of tell, and we will be closer to the kind of teacher we strive to be. We can still provide a safe place for kids even while we are learning.
