They thought football was safe. World Cup news hit the group chat. Casualties were immediate. I need you to understand something. I am generally quite resistant to men as a concept. Exceptions: My son. BTS. Thomas, who is still on a 120-day trial and has not yet received his permanent emotional visa. But I do have this group chat with my old high school boys. All married.All very cool. All football people. It’s basically a support group for people who think emotions are offside. Basically, the only men I trust with match analysis and childhood blackmail. Yes, I’m a woman who loves football. Not every match. I’m not doing Strasbourg vs. Clermont on a Tuesday for fun. But France games? Always. My girlfriends don’t care about matches, so for big games it’s always them. We watched France win in 1998 together. We were young, loud and full of hope. Since then: tradition. Every World Cup, whenever we can, we meet and we watch the matches together, especially France’s games. Same people, same shouting, same snacks, slightly older knees. This morning, I open the chat. Christophe:“Guys. Did you see the World Cup news?” Victor:“What news? France squad? Isn’t that tonight?” Patrick:“Wait what happened?” Bruno:“Don’t tell me someone is injured.” Clément:“Scandal?.” Christophe:“Halftime show. Google. You’ll understand.”🙄 Then. Patrick:“ F—..” Christophe:“F—!!!!!! We’re going to hear about this for YEARS.” Victor:“She’s going to scream louder than during the actual matches.” Christophe:“Titine (their little nickname for me). You need to promise us you won’t go full psycho.” Victor:“Strange she hasn’t invaded the chat yet.” Clément:“She’s probably still asleep.” Bruno:“We’re doomed.” Christophe:“Girl please! Stay calm in this chat.” (They have never begged this hard for their wives.) Meanwhile, I had just discovered the news. My pupils dilate. So naturally I enter the chat like a glitter tornado holding a megaphone. ME: “HELLOOOOO BOYS!!!!!!!!” Patrick:“No.” Clément: “She’s awake. We’re dead.” Bruno:“May God help us.” Christophe: “Everybody stay calm. DO NOT ENGAGE.” Me: “GOOD MORNING TO YOU TOO.” Also me:“YESSSSSSS. MY BOYS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD CUP. POOO! PO-PO-PO-PO-POOO!”!!!!!!!!!!!!(European chant, don’t arrest me) Christophe:“Continue and we’re banning you from the chat.” Me:“I’m the admin, idiot.”🙄 Christophe: “I forgot you were… oh f—.” Patrick: “We’re trapped with her.” Clément:“We’re dead.” Me: I won’t be psycho.” Me (0.2 sec later): “I’LL BE HOOOOLIGAN. Then BTS walked into halftime. And now my childhood football group chat has accidentally become ARMY onboarding. No refunds. No exits. @cypherluscious Don’t worry, the boys just need a dose of vitamin iv drip. I’m half joking but yes agree to your point. Even in corporate life, there are times when you are physically challenged from tight schedules but that choice is made because it’s important enough to make it happen.

Oh, I'm certain BTS and BH (who are sure to have detailed plans in place until 2042) knew about this when scheduling their tour.

Omg please bh release SEA ticketing before July 19th. Millions. And I mean MILLIONS of people will be tuning in to the final halftime show and will want to go see them on tour!! Sometimes I think that BTs being born in the kpop industry actually contributed to the way they thought that ARMY may move on from them someday. It’s inevitable when that’s how their predecessors have always been. Hopefully, this tour shows them that that’s not true for them.

@afriyieau1 As far as I know, even BH is planning to make a SEA boy group. They held auditions in Jakarta, Bangkok and other major SEA cities.

@afriyieau1 The local music scene is on the rise. Indonesian are very susceptible to change in trend so when the trend shifted from kpop to more local music people followed. There are still a lot of loyal ARMY but the multis and casual fans have changed direction I guess.

I’m so curious What happened to our SEA numbers though? I remember Indonesia and Philippines used to be our powerhouses on Spotify. Even on debut, we barely made top 40 on Indonesia Spotify, a chart we used to top. It’s such an interesting development

It’s fascinating to see even as an ARMY of 8 years. This Arirang era has shown me how many young artists grew up listening to BTS music and are now standing on the stage chasing after their dreams. Truly I’m happy for them.
