🧵 THREAD: 1/5 With the presidential election just days away and reproductive care access a major issue, our Scripps News investigative team dug into how birth control is covered in the U.S. Here’s what we found:

violations spanned across 44 states and included small and large hospitals, in both rural and urban areas. We found hospitals had violated federal law despite having labor and delivery units in-house and obstetricians on call, but some hospitals did not have maternity wards.

Last night at the #debate Kamala Harris mentioned the reality of pregnant women showing up to emergency rooms bleeding and not getting the care they need in post-roe America... but it's important to understand this was also happening while roe was still in place... 🧵
