Okay but this isn’t that crazy. A $50k car works out to about $11/day over 20 years. That’s about the same cost as a single trip on King County Metro.
It’s wild that we can choose to pay about half that for a cheap car.

One of the problems with progressive-socialism being mostly the politics of wealthy white people, is that they smuggle in the interests of the affluent under the guise of equity, and place all the homeless shelters far away from themselves.

“Industrial” zoning! Ballard is great, but urban “planning” made it strictly worse, crowding businesses into corridors in weird ways while also not preserving the businesses they were ostensibly protecting.

RIP to Joel Connelly, who I’m told passed away this morning. He was an icon of Seattle journalism, and such a defining (for me) voice of the old Seattle Post-Intelligencer and its scrappy, somewhat offbeat spirit.
My condolences to his family and his many close friends and fans.

Maddening story in the Seattle Times today that plans to put a Winco grocery at a former big box store site on Aurora that has been vacant for nearly a decade have been delayed and perhaps killed outright by an environmental impact challenge from a mysterious "neighborhood group" which "has no website and is not registered with the state" and whose lawyer will only say is "made up of King County residents."
Hmmm... the same "neighborhood group" also unsuccessfully tried to block the opening of a Winco out in Renton. Winco is a majority employee-owned discount grocery chain know for providing competitive wages and good benefits, but they're not union. Hmmm...

Totally agree with @dicktofel. Starting long news stories with an anecdotal lead needs to end. Everyone is busy and has shorter attention spans. Writers shouldn't need to tell a person's story to convey an issue's importance. It buries the substance. open.substack.com/pub/dicktofel/…
