My walk guest and I share several passions: a fascination with history, a background in process facilitation, careers in law, a love for dogs, and a deep enthusiasm for African culture—especially the significance of proverbs as vehicles and mediators of African life.
Recently, @krugamotion and I were in Tunisia to attend a gathering that brought together leaders in philanthropy from across Africa and Europe. Together, we reflected on ‘futures philanthropy’ and what it will take to foster a more equitable world.
Patrick served as the facilitator during the three-day event. When he mentioned that he would be visiting Uganda this week, we arranged to walk together. It was a genuine pleasure to have him as my walk guest this evening.
Patrick is currently compiling African proverbs about leadership. His focus is not on the broad, often generalized “African” proverbs, but on collecting sayings from the diverse languages spoken across the continent. Through these proverbs, he aims to illustrate how African leadership is portrayed and how these traditional sayings impart the values and purpose associated with leadership.
As someone who collects and cherishes African proverbs about generosity and giving, I deeply relate to Patrick’s mission to “story our ways of knowing, being, and doing.” This approach not only helps preserve and safeguard the finest aspects of African culture but also serves to teach and celebrate the rich nuances and shared humanity we bring as Africans.
If you know any proverbs about leadership or generosity from your mother tongue, please share them with us! Together, we can enrich this collective wisdom.

It's always good to revisit archives, if only to believe in ourselves again. To never lose the urge to learn, explore, ask new questions.

The very nature of colonisation is that we are always struggling. We are tired of being resilient as Black people. How impt it is to create moments of softness for our communities.

There is power in conversation! It was difficult in a very good way. I was so nervous and so correct to be. The work I do as a social change practitioner pierces deep into my soul. I hope I made sense!Thank you @ConvoWithTrevor for this opportunity to think, share and reflect
