I beat Zelda II on stream using original hardware on Sunday! It was such a great feeling because it’s a tough game! Zelda II was one of my first games as a kid, but I didn’t beat it until a couple years ago on a Switch. This was my first time beating it on my childhood cartridge! 💖 I saved all 1-Ups for the Valley of Death run, which was so helpful. I also made a map for the Great Palace because it’s such a Labyrinth! Casting reflect was super helpful with Thunderbird but I was still pretty shocked when I got him rather quickly because it was only my second time defeating him. I did my best to defeat the final boss without the corner cheese trick and mostly did except two strikes 🤭 I love the ending of this game and the victory music in the credits is the best and enhances the feeling so much! I found this cute wall hanging of the end scene with Zelda at Portland Retro Gaming Expo! I really do love this game and had so much fun playing through it again. I’m working on a highlight video and will also share some reels soon! I’ll continue with a chill Bubble Bobble stream the evenings of 5/20 and a Dragon Quest / Warrior 40th Anniversary stream 5/27 playing the original game! (Christina_rose_on @Twitch 😊💖) I hope you have a lovely week!!

April vs. the TMNT on NES seaweed level! I had better luck for this anniversary than last year! 😆 This is where anxiety began for many of us. Could you beat this level? ❤️🐢
Christina Rose@christinarose_e

Happy 37th birthday to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nintendo game, released for Famicom in Japan on May 12, 1989! 🥳 It came to the US for NES in June of 89. I recently got the May/June 1990 issue of Nintendo Power smiled coming across an article where TMNT received their equivalent of Game of the Year for 1989! The game, released by Konami’s subsidiary Ultra, alternates top-down and side-scrolling perspectives as the player guides all 4 turtles to rescue April and defeat Shredder at the Technodrome. There are staple enemies throughout the 5 game levels, like the Foot Clan, but also bizarre fire men and alien-like “roof leapers.” It’s notoriously difficult, with few continues and an infamous dam level that makes me anxious to this day. It gets far worse after the dam level, but I think we can collectively agree how stressful it is between brutal currents, sappy seaweed, and lasers! It was where anxiety for many of us began! 🤭 This is the same complete copy of TMNT I had as a child. I never have beat it, and my dad still teases me for having to listen to the defeat music so frequently! Still, it’s an important part of my childhood (I loved TMNT and still have a little booklet I made from 1st grade 😆). I’m determined to beat it someday! Also, my last few TMNT posts received comments asking where my April O’Neil cosplay was, so I thought this would be fun! 💚

@christinarose_e @Todd_Garner @MKMovie I was on the fence about it only because I wasn’t a huge fan of the first one, but I trust your review and will definitely give it a watch. I am a sucker for Mortal Kombat. I am digging those popcorn buckets and Kitana cup!

I saw Mortal Kombat II and it was everything I wanted a Mortal Kombat II movie to be. Todd Garner understood the assignment, and the film was packed with rich cinematography, iconic stages, and stellar fight choreography. The Liu Kang vs. Kung Lao battle was nothing short of outstanding, converting the 2D battle screens to the silver screen. Each exchange in that fight had meaning and nodded to gameplay, and the combo and zoning abilities of each character as they exchanged special moves were phenomenal. The sequence with @TheLewisTan ‘s Cole Young brilliantly showcased his exceptional martial arts talent amidst an emblematic backdrop that elicited audible gasps of excitement. Shao Kahn was truly menacing, and each strike of his hammer and shoulder charge transported me back to squaring off against him as a child playing MKII and wondering how to overcome his brute strength. Kano’s quips were a standout, much as they were in the 2021 film. Baraka could have gone wrong, but the direction the film took with him was perfect. Karl Urban did an amazing job portraying Johnny Cage’s reluctance as he draws on his acting strengths to respond to the absurdity around him, and of course his special moves and flashy acrobatics were excellent. Each character had a role to play in the outcome, some in surprising ways, and I enjoyed every minute. The dynamic between Kitana and Jade was brilliantly captured. Kitana was everything my inner 90s child hoped to see when I first fell in love with the idea of a ninja-like princess, and I loved that she was such a major focus in the film. Adeline Rudolph’s performance never missed a beat, and she consistently displayed a regal air while remaining respectful to the source material. Throughout the film, I found myself uncontrollably smiling, which is a testament to the film’s success. There are criticisms if I cared to nitpick, but they do not overshadow everything Mortal Kombat II does right. The 1995 film will always be my favorite, but Mortal Kombat II fired on all cylinders and accomplished exactly what it set out to do. I highly recommend giving it a watch! ❤️🐉 (Also, the updates to the music were so good and I could help but buy all the popcorn buckets!!)
