Today's #Grower26 update comes from VFF in Scott County: Corn conditions across the territory are highly variable and largely reflect this season's rainfall patterns. Approximately 75% of their irrigated corn will be harvested for silage for local feedlots and dairies. Dryland is all for grain, some going as high-moisture for feedlots and some dry. Rainfall has ranged dramatically across the region. The wettest area has been around Dighton, receiving roughly 15 inches of precipitation this year. Over a 10-day period, more than 8 inches fell in the region, resulting in some drowned out acres. In contrast, Hamilton County has received only 4.7 inches this year.  Overall, corn development ranges from V4 to V14, roughly 3 weeks to tassel. Most irrigated corn was planted into triticale stubble from last summer or wheat stubble, with relatively little double-crop corn this year due to fewer triticale acres. On dryland, they have a good mix of corn into corn, milo stalks, and wheat stubble. Some fields got hail around the V7 growth stage; it's still hard to tell what the yield drag will be on those acres. Overall crop conditions are strongest in Scott, Lane, Kearny, Finney, and Hodgemann counties, where timely rainfall has supported growth. Conditions are less favorable in Wichita, Hamilton, and Greeley counties, where rainfall has been limited, and moisture stress is becoming evident.

Today, we celebrate Sue Schulte, Senior Director of Communications, as she retires from Kansas Corn after 30 years of dedicated service. Her commitment has made a lasting impact on our organization and growers nationwide. “Sue has tirelessly served Kansas corn farmers, filling nearly every role in Kansas Corn,” Josh Roe, CEO, said. “Her impacts are immeasurable. Personally, I’ve benefited immensely from the time I’ve worked with her. Sue’s talent to assess a situation and create a plan is quite literally a thing of beauty to observe, and what I’ll miss most about working with her.” We wish Sue all the best in her retirement and thank her for her countless contributions she has made over the past 30 years!

Today's #Grower26 update come from Rod Tangeman from Nemaha County: “We planted this corn on the Nemaha County River bottoms April 15th to the 18th. We planted 28-29,000 seeds an acre and had a pretty much perfect stand. Around June 4th into June 5th, we had 2 different rains that came through. We had around 6.5 inches in the northern half of the county and the southern half had around 10 inches. This farm had around 10-12 feet of water on it. I’ve never seen corn buggy-whip and curl like it has.” #KansasCorn #KansasAgriculture #Corn #Farmers #Kansas
