Marathi Granth Sangrahalaya (library) was in the ground floor where we were regulars during our childhood. There was Bapu Sangeet Vidyalaya, next to Maharashtra Mandal, where I learnt to play Bulbul Tarang, Harmonium and Guitar but couldn't pursue due to my CA studies. We have several friends and colleagues... Athavles, Kauloolkars, Tuljapurkars and Shahs (lived mostly in Hanuman-Tekdi, Badi-Chawdi) and still meet and spend quality time with each other. Those were the days.

Marathis and Gujjus both have a significant presence in Hyderabad from long. With Marathwada being part of the erstwhile Hyderabad State, many Marathis there migrated to Hyderabad during Nizam's time, most of em in administration, revenue departments. It's quite common to find Kulkarnis, Deshmukhs, Deshpandes, Patils not just in Hyderabad but even in other Telangana towns and cities. Though more in North Telangana districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad. Marathis in Hyderabad are found mostly in Sultan Bazar, Badi Chowdi areas. Kacheguda, Narayanguda, Barkatpura too had good number of Marathis. Maharashtra Mandal in Koti has been quite active since past 75 years. There is also Vimal Natya Samaj that actively promotes Marathi theater, dance. Gujjus in Hyderabad too came here during Nizam's time mostly in trading and business. They are concentrated around the commercial hubs like Abids, Koti, Sultan Bazaar. There is a sizeable Gujju population in Secunderabad too, mostly around the General Bazaar, Residency Bazaar areas. Deepak Bhavan at Ramkoti, Sultan Bazaar has been a prominent Gujju Samaj organization. There is also Gujarati Pragati Samaj at Hanuman Tekdi, Sultan Bazaar. And a Gujarati Bhojanalay at Sultan Bazaar offering really good Gujarati cuisine. Marathis and Gujjus both have been an integral part of Hyderabad's landscape since centuries, integrated well into the city.

So horrific! Six people from the same family died in a car accident at Exit 16 on the Shamshabad Outer Ring Road, Hyderabad, just a little while ago. Their car rammed into a stationary lorry while coming back from darshan at Yadagirigutta. Very sad.
